Calorie Shifting Diet

Welcome to Calorie Shifting on Squidoo!

First off, let me congratulate you on making a commitment to losing weight and taking the necessary step towards making your life healthier and better. Calorie Shifting Diet is certainly one of the best ways to achieve fast and long term weight loss. In this lens I will try to explain why.

Excess weight is a worldwide problem and the number of people becoming overweight continues to rise. If you are overweight, you are certainly not alone, in fact you are in the majority.

It is mostly being perceived that losing weight is a very difficult thing. If it wasn't, why is a large percentage of the population overweight? People do try to lose weight, they resort to many different dieting techniques, even going under the knife. But still, a very low percentage is actually successful (under 5%).

This lens is dedicated to Calorie Shifting Diet, an alternative to mainstream diets, also known as the Fat Loss 4 Idiots. This diet is so straightforward that the inventors named it - Idiot Proof Diet.

But before we go into the calorie shifting theory, lets look at some mainstream "reduction diets" and see why they don't work.

Do Low Fat, Low Calorie or Low Carb Diets Work?

Not really. Not in the long-term, anyway. The fact is that the majority of traditional diets don't work. The reason for this is simple - they are starvation diets. The low-fat, low-calorie and low-carb diets have been heavily hyped for the last few decades, but they continue to fail to produce long-lasting results for almost anyone who has tried them. Why?

Most of these diets force you to lower your caloric intake to dangerously low levels, which means you are starving yourself. And when your body thinks you are starving, it actually becomes more efficient at storing fat by slowing down your metabolism. You will probably lose a bunch of weight quickly, but after a short time your metabolism will slow down so much that the first time you eat normally, you will gain weight. This is why most people who go back to eating normally after being on a starvation diet will gain back all the weight they lost, plus a few pounds extra.

The percentage of people who regain weight after these diets is enormous - well above 90%. The number of people who sustain a substantial weight loss (more than 35 lbs) for more than 5 years is awfully small. Why?

To understand this, you have to understand how our bodies work. Our bodies are smarter that we usually think. And that's generally a good thing, believe me.

Your body has a built in regulating system designed to look after your best interests. Simply put - it wants to preserve life at all costs. Because you deprive your body of food when you are starving yourself on low-fat, low-calorie or low-carb diets, it goes into so called survival mode. While in survival mode it switches from a fat-burning machine to an energy saving fat-storing machine. The less you eat, the lower your body sets it's metabolic furnace. This is because when your body feels it's not getting the nutrition it needs, it will conserve every last scrap of energy (calories) and not burn any more than what it absolutely needs to survive.

You may think that you're being smart by starving yourself to lose weight, but your body is even smarter at helping you survive on very little energy in your period of starvation.

All this makes starvation diets nearly impossible to stick with over an extended period of time. These diets are actually contributing to weight gain more than they are helping people to find long lasting weight loss. The bottom line is that you should avoid them, because they are not healthy and can in fact be counter-productive.

You can actually eat a surprising amount of good food and still lose weight. This is possible with a new method that could mean an end to starvation diets - Calorie Shifting.

What Is Calorie Shifting?

Calorie shifting, also known as calorie cycling, is an approach to weight loss that focuses on eating patterns, rather than on calorie counting or what types of food to eat or avoid. This is quickly becoming the preferred approach for a growing number of health-conscious consumers looking for a safe way to shed pounds and keep them off.

Calorie Shifting is accomplished by constantly changing what you eat, so that your body doesn't get used to any routine. It is a method which attempts to trick your metabolism into thinking that you are not dieting. That way the metabolism doesn't slow down and you continue to lose weight.

Your body only burns calories based on your established eating pattern and it generally expects that pattern to remain unchanged. Calorie shifting means changing the kinds of food, the nutrients and the calories you eat every few days to keep your body guessing. And when your body doesn't become accustomed to any eating regime, it stays in high-burning mode. So by rotating the calorie intake, your body will burn the eaten calories and then other things such as fat.

Calorie Shifting allows you to eat from all of the food groups and lets you eat a reasonable amount of food, including food types that are considered to be fattening. And because you eat four meals a day, you never starve so it's easy to stick with it for a long time.

Calorie Shifting Diet is an alternative to other mainstream starvation diets such as the low-fat, low-calorie and low-carbohydrate diets. It keeps your metabolism running high and when done correctly, insures a fast and continuous fat loss.

Calorie Shifting Diet - Idiot Proof Diet

Calorie Shifting Diet, better known as Idiot Proof Diet, provides you with an online menu generating software which takes into account the foods you like to eat. The menu consist of 4 meals a day of medium size.

Since all you need to do is follow a menu, it's all relatively easy to do. It takes some discipline, off course. You're not going to get to eat a lot of icecream and junk food during this diet.

The diet also allows cheat days, allowing you to have any foods that you wish for the entire day, while still losing weight.

Most people find this diet to be much easier to maintain because you are always eating and not starving yourself as you do with many other diets.
