Calories in Alcohol, do they Really Matter for Weight Loss?

The calories in alcohol don't matter a damn if you don't drink alcohol or you only drink a moderate amount. Even if you're a relatively heavy drinker they don't matter that much if you don't take in too many calories via other channels, like food.

The calories in alcohol don't matter much if you take a lot of exercise to burn them off.

So, why all the fuss?

Two reasons: first, most people who drink a fair amount tend to be averse to exercise. Let's face it you don't see many lounge lizards in the gym. And, second, most regular drinkers tend to like to snack with their drink. And that is not good for the figure.

So, if you like a drink or two what can you do to save your figure from the ravages of alcohol calories?

You can go for drinks with a lower alcohol content, they tend to also be lower in calories. A 4 fluid oz glass of dry white wine has less than 100 calories. Low calorie beers tend to be well under 100 calories.

Avoid drinks that require mixers, particularly if they are high sugar content mixers like bitter lemon.

Don't have snacks like chips or peanuts with your drink. A 3 oz pack of roasted and salted peanuts has 495 calories, as much as 5 glasses of white wine or 2 large beers!

If you find it difficult to cut down then you need some personal development, willpower training.

How Should You Count the Calories in Alcohol?

If you're serious about losing weight and you like a drink or two now and again you need to know about the calories in alcohol.

I recommend that you do a search on Google for your favorite drinks and make a note of how many calories they each contain.

For instance of an evening I like a couple of Buds (Budweiser Select, 12 fluid ozs = 95 calories) 190 calories. Or I might have a couple of glasses of Merlot (Merlot, 4 fluid ozs = 95 calories) 190 calories.

My target for healthy living is to try not to exceed 200 calories a day from alcohol.

One reason for this is that alcohol seems to stimulate my desire for food. So by keeping down the amount of alcohol I consume I stand a better chance of not over-eating.

Hi! Great lense on a not so common subject :)
I however think this is more myth than reallity. I have friends who drink untill they fall off and they're slim as a feather. More important i think is what you eat and how much you exercise.
Just my 2 cents worth of opinion.
