Calvin Johnson Bio

Calvin Johnson was drafted as the number 2 overall pick in the 2007 NFL draft by the Detroit Lions.  As a wide receiver at Georgia Tech, Johnson shattered many school receiving records including career receiving yards, touchdown receptions, and most career 100 yard receiving games.  Johnson begain his collegiate career in 2004 by establishing himself as the Yellowjackets leading receiver and being named to All-ACC first team.  In his sophomore year he repeated this feat and also earned first team All-American honors.  In 2006 Johnson entered the season in the running for the Biletnikoff Award (Best Wide Receiver) and the Heisman trophy.  Johnson fell short of the Heisman (finishing 10th) but did take home the Biletnikoff.  He was also named the ACC Player of the Year and was selected to his 3rd consecutive All-ACC first team.

In January of 2007 Calvin Johnson announced that he would forego his senior season at Georgia Tech and enter the NFL draft.  At the NFL combine he solidified his spot at the top of the draft by running an impressive 4.33 second 40-yard dash, performing an 11-foot standing broad jump, and demonstrating a 43 inch vertical jump.  On April 28th, 2007 the Detroit Lions selected Johnson with the number 2 overall pick in the draft.  This was the highest a Georgia Tech player had ever been drafted.
