Travelling in Cambodia!

As we travel through Cambodia, we will be updating the site with accommodation and attraction reviews, our unique food experiences and all the tips and tricks that we've learned during our stay.

So if you are curious about taking a trip to Cambodia, come along with us on our adventure.

Getting a Visa for Cambodia

There is no need to apply for a Cambodian visa before you arrive. Tourist visas for most nationalities are available when you arrive at the airport. If you are entering by land, it's possible to get your visa at the Aranyapathet-Poipet Border and Trat-Koh Kong Border of Thailand and Moc Bai - Bavet Border of Vietnam.

All that is required is a photocopy of your passport, 1 passport photo and $20 US for your tourist visa fee. If you do not bring a photo you will still be able to get your visa, there is just an additional charge of $2. The visa is valid for 30 days from date of issue but you can have your visa extended for another 30 days for $25 US.

A return ticket is not required to get a visa which is handy if you're on an open ended trip around south east asia.

Our Favorite Hotels in Cambodia

These are the hotels that we stayed at during our trip through Cambodia that we would recommend to anyone. Your hotel while you travel is your home away from home and can make such an impact on how much you enjoy your stay. So try these hotels out and you will not be disappointed.
Our Favorite Hotel in Siem Reap - Auberge Mont Royal d'Angkor
After a miserable few nights at the hotel we booked before we arrived, we switched to the Mont Royal Auberge and we were very glad that we did. They have an amazing pool and spa area. The pool is a salt pool and left my skin feeling great. The free breakfast was excellent and was tasty as well as visually appealing. We paid $25 per night plus $2 for unlimited wifi for our entire stay that was useable in the lobby and the pool area. Location was good, wasn't too far to walk to pub street for lunch or dinner. The restaurant across the street from the hotel puts on a really good buffet barbeque for $6.

Our Favorite Hotel in Phnom Penh - The Manor House
Wonderful secure hotel in the heart of Phnom Penh. Nice pool that is great for laps or just lounging. Free continental breakfast in the morning. Friendly staff, the owner had some great suggestions for us about the sites and the city. We paid $43 per night for 2 people in a basic room. Free wifi throughout the hotel.

Our Favorite Hotel in Sihanoukville - Beach Club Resort
Close to Ochheuteal beach, only a couple blocks away. The restaurant has one of the best coffees that we have tasted so far in Cambodia (for the best, try the Cinderella Cafe a couple blocks away, yummy!). Huge pool with lots of lounging chairs and palm trees. Friendly staff and in house laundry for a good price. Our room was $23 per night with a long term stay discount. Free wifi throughout the hotel. There are so many restaurants close by that serve excellent food. We went back to LaPona which is located just across the street from the hotel time and time again for the excellent bbq and chicken curry.

Talk with the Locals...

Being able to say some basic words and phrases while in Cambodia can go a long way. If you can't find the words, a smile works well to.

Learning to speak a little of the language will be very appreciated by any local you talk to. You'll be surprised how people will lighten up and try to help you out if you just give it a go and try.

Our favorite destination in Cambodia was Sihanoukville, which has amazing beaches that are uncrowded and undeveloped. There are boat trips you can take to gorgeous, pristine islands. Of course Angkor Wat is the most visited destination in Cambodia and it is a must see! Another great site for looking up information to plan your trip to Cambodia is http://wikitravel.org/en/Cambodia
Thanks for visiting! Enjoy your trip!
