Who is Camille Claudel - Sculpture-Art-Passion! Ohh the MOVIE!
Ranked #11,237 in Arts & Design, #207,589 overall
I LOVE Camille Claudel!, Her Art, Her Soul
Creating sculpture is such a passionate, hands on art form and Camille Claudel understood that well. Such a sad ending to a glorious artist. Camille Claudell was a remarkable sculptor and I personally believe it was because of her passion and her dark side. She breathed passion, and to me, that is what it takes to make great art. As a sculptor myself I have always loved her, related to clay between my fingers and the angst that drives it all.
Back then, when Camille Claudel lived, people dug up their own clay, they didn't buy it by the box.
Think of the devotion it must have taken. Her drive to not only dig up the clay, but to practice; to create an image in her mind in clay, over and over, until she became good enough for Rodin to take notice of her. To practice enough that a person could actually be satisfied by meeting an accomplishment of a sculpture to be proud of, yet driven to get better.
I don't think 'anyone' ever actually arrives to any kind of perfection in themselves.. good thing.. lest why keep trying?
To be a good artist one must understand it is about devotion to art, love of the craft, not so much the result to admire as a finished product, it was love for art that drove Claudel and possibly that dark side (?) Do you think? Does it take a dark side to create art of real consequence?
Maybe that's just me to agree? Not always of course.. no not always but it is there very often, that dark side. Yet there must also be a LOVE for art that causes a person to fee that there is little that would ever deter them from doing art.
People forget sometimes that it takes practice to become good at art and it never ends. People comment on Olympic champions, the hours of practice to arrive at the Olympics.. art is no different.
I feel a special attachment to her because she died on my birthday..stupid I guess. I am not saying I have taken her talent as mine.. or that when she died I began, but I do feel a certain affinity with her.
Passion comes to bless us all, we just need to meet it at its gate.

Three reasons to love Camille Claudel
~~*~~I love Camille Claudel because of her passion, her drive and of course her talent in art and sculpture.
I love her work and the torture of her life. That may sound funny and I don't want that to be misunderstood, but when someone loves art as much as Camille Claudel did..pain automatically comes with that. That is my belief anyway. I hope to write articles on the subject and post them here from time to time.

I write poetry... post poems here... and there... and here below:Grim Reaper Drawings - A Host to the Dark Side
I stood in the hallway
grim reaper drawings everywhere.
They clawed their way here.
They were seen yesterday
someone mentioned
trampling on my fairies.
OH! Whimsical angels were drowning
in their own voices.
There is no light
so I had to tell them the truth.
What else was there to do?
It is the dark side.
I'm having trouble finding my way outside the box
If it weren't for all those curtains
holes in the corner...
damn.
Maybe I should just give it all more time.
Maybe I should be more optimistic.
Maybe.
Always those excused ripples
messages unveiled
sliding in and out
meaningless days
better be more careful
chicadee.
Try to tie the ribbons more tightly
lest they get away this time.
No more excuses accepted
not for grim reaper.
Cold at last
I'll put on layers today
protect me from people who point out faults.
People made of dust
yet they don't know that.
Who am I to crack their barriers?
I think I'll just stand back laughing.
Bloody sheets
pitiful graves
no one to laugh at really.
It is the dark side.
Grim reaper reaches out
I give him a leg up
he insists he's always done things on his own.
I'm sure...
I believe him
of course!
I still remain in his chorus
none the less
sing those tunes
keep it edgy I hear me saying
all the way to all those headstones.
Block out any sense of confinement
can't you?
There are bloody sheets
just about everywhere I look
I want to wrap them up
stick them in an envelope.
No matter how they fit
send them off with no return address
no protesting
I know that they will find me anyway
giving them a clear route
they know where I sleep.
Outside I hear the loon
I formed one with clay once
I am convinced he still knows his place.
Despite my objections
he'll hang around
waits for platforms
paint that will surround his call.
I will ignore it
or at least try.
Grim reaper drawings
I will not frame them after all
no boxes here
he really does not like them
and after all
it is the dark side
and I am still a part of his chorus.

- Claudel has always fascinated me. I once read that many of Rodin's sculptures were actually hers. I have never seen the movie. Could not bring myself to watch the tragedy and sadness of her life. I am grateful for your celebration of her work here, and your compassion.

- I have to confess I'd never heard of Camille Claudel, but when a sculptor's work is so powerfully moving in a mere photograph, one can only imagine what it must be like to be in the same room with it and view it in the round - thank you so much for the introduction to her!
