I LOVE Camille Claudel!

Camille Claudell was a remarkable sculptor. She had passiion and to me, as I am sure you will agree that is what it takes to make great art.

Back then people dug up their own clay, they did not buy it by the box. I think of the devotion it must have taken to practice to a point that a person could actually be satisfied by meeting an accomplishment of a sculpture to be proud of. I don't think 'anyone' ever actually arrives to any kind of perfection in themselves.. good thing.. lest why keep trying?

Devotion to the art, love of the craft, not the result to admire, was what drove her or drives any artist for that matter.

I feel a special attachment to her because she died on my birthday.. I am not saying I have taken her talent as mine.. or that when she died I began, but I do feel a certain affinity with her.

From Wikipedia:

Camille Claudel was born in Fère-en-Tardenois, Aisne, in northern France, the second child of a family of farmers and gentry. Her father, Louis Prosper, dealt in mortgages and bank transactions. Her mother, the former Louise Athanaïse Cécile Cerveaux, came from a Champagne family of Catholic farmers and priests. The family moved to Villeneuve-sur-Fère while Camille was still a baby. Her younger brother Paul Claudel was born there in 1866. Subsequently they moved to Bar-le-Duc (1870), Nogent-sur-Seine (1876), and Wassy-sur-Blaise (1879), although they continued to spend summers in Villeneuve-sur-Fère, and the stark landscape of that region made a deep impression on the children. Camille moved with her mother, brother and younger sister to the Montparnasse area of Paris in 1881, her father having to remain behind, working to support them.

Three reasons to love Camille Claudel

~~*~~

I love Camille Claudel because of her passion, her drive and of course her talent in art and sculpture.

I love her work and the torture of her life. That may sound funny and I don't want that to be misunderstood, but when someone loves art as much as Camille Claudel did..pain automatically comes with that. That is my belief anyway. I hope to write articles on the subject and post them here from time to time.

Grim Reaper Drawings - A Host to the Dark Side

I stood in the hallway
grim reaper drawings everywhere.
They clawed their way here
they were seen yesterday
someone mentioned
trampling on my fairies
whimsical angels were drowning in their own voices.
There is no light
I had to tell them the truth.
What else was there to do?

It is the dark side.

I'm having trouble finding my way outside the box
If it weren't for all those curtains
holes in the corner...
damn.
Maybe I should just give it all more time.
Maybe I should be more optimistic.
Maybe.

Always those excused ripples
messages unveiled
sliding in and out
meaningless days
better be more careful
chicadee.
Try to tie the ribbons more tightly
lest they get away this time.
No more excuses accepted
not for grim reaper.

Cold at last
I'll put on layers today
protect me from people who point out faults.
People made of dust
yet they don't know that.
Who am I to crack their barriers?
I think I'll just stand back laughing.
Bloody sheets
pitiful graves
no one to laugh at really.

It is the dark side.

Grim reaper reaches out
I give him a leg up
he insists he's always done things on his own.
I'm sure
I believe him
of course!
I still remain in his chorus
none the less
sing those tunes
keep it edgy I hear me saying
all the way to all those headstones.

Block out any sense of confinement
can't you?

There are bloody sheets
just about everywhere I look
I want to wrap them up
stick them in an envelope.
No matter how they fit
send them off with a return address
no protesting
I know that they will find me anyway
give them a clear route
they know where I sleep.

Outside I hear the loon
I formed one with clay once
I am convinced he still knows his place.
Despite my objections
he'll hang around
wait for platforms
paint that will surround his call.
I will ignore it
or at least try.

Grim reaper drawings
I will not frame them after all
no boxes here
he really does not like them
and after all
it is the dark side
and I am still a part of his chorus.
