RV Camper School-Things to do in the Car
While traveling we enjoy learning. Our family likes to read aloud from good books related to where we are visiting. We also like to trace or highlight our route on maps, color in state coloring books and learn about the state we are in. We only color the states we are in or have actually been to. We've kept the same coloring book all through the years, which makes it personal and very special to us.
You can listen to educational CD's, cassettes, or an iPod as you look out the window at the beautiful and different countryside.
We enjoy singing aloud as a family, especially songs about American history. Keep song books or copies of the words to your favorite songs in the car so everyone can sing along without just singing "la la la".
You can also practice a foreign language as you travel. We have Spanish, History Ballads, classical music and the Mountain Aires on our iPods.
THE MOUNTAIN AIRES are a band of several homeschooled young men from North Carolina with musical talents, common goals and a focused purpose to glorify God with their music. They play a unique blend of traditional acoustic music including bluegrass, Celtic, folk, old-time, and gospel on hammered dulcimer, guitar, banjo, mandolin, violin, and bass. Click on their links to listen to some GREAT samples! You'll want to purchase their CD to inspire your young musicians!

There are four pages per state, covering the date of statehood, capital city, state symbols, and map location in the U.S. This workbook is completely self-contained: color state symbol pictures and informational cut-outs needed to fill in the pages are included in the appendix at the back of the book. Fifty States Under God (State History from a Christian Perspective) by Joy Dean
This book is GREAT whether you are traveling or learning US history and geography at home! Fifty States Under God is a time line overview of the building of our nation, state by state. It includes a brief study on every one of the fifty states. In the course of studying events of particular interest to each state, the student will see, from a Christian perspective, how these events affected that state and our nation as a whole. RV Camper School- Family Resources
Our family likes camping at State Parks and National Parks rather than the crowded RV Parks. There is always something to do and see, like walking along nature trails or boating. There are often family events going on in the parks, like outdoor movies and ranger programs which can be a lot of fun. We like to drive around the parks and look for wildlife. Make your RV Camper School camping experiences memorable and fun. You can camp in tents, camping cabins, campers or RVs that you borrow, rent or own. RV Camper School- Trip Journals
How to Make a Trip Journal
All along, since the first of our trips, we have kept journals. It is lots of fun and there are many different ways you can do them. Even a young child can draw pictures and do copy work. The older children can be more creative in their journals. You can handwrite or type them or you can make it like a scrapbook by writing a paragraph or two on a 3x5 card and sticking it to card stock inside clear pocket pages with brochures, post cards, ticket stubs, drawings and pictures. You can do them together as a family or you can do them individually. Be creative. Make it your style!
After you get home, have a scrapbook crop with your family or friends to document your trip. Our sister-in-law has a great EBook to help you get started.
Why not build your own Squidoo lens to journal your trip? We merged our individual journals for our "Great Journey West" and made a Squidoo lens to help you get ideas and make plans for your next family vacation. You can even earn money selling books and resources you use along the way.
