I love going camping. What I do is purchase a big tote (or two) and put the items in it that won't spoil and can be put into storage when not camping. I also keep the list in there that way I don't lose it and have to start all over again.

I haven't gone camping since I was a kid but I must admit that I would like to. However, living in Arctic Canada makes it nearly impossible - especially when we are gone for a few weeks - and need to take so much, as it is. If I was to add camping gear to the mix, I'd never fit it all in the vehicle.

I'm hoping, in time, to set aside a few days when the kids and I remain in Canada - to leave our stuff somewhere, pack a couple overnight bags and go camping for a few days.

As for lists, I made one a few years ago for a general vacation and I continue to consult it, adding and subtracting as necessary.

I love seeing what other people take with them when they go camping, very different to us but I totally agree with making a list. We managed to go camping without tent poles once. Luckily it was just about close enough to home for my husband to go back and get them. Not good!

Hey thank you guys for all of your suggestions. They really helped me get ready for my first real camping trip. THX!!!!!!!!!!!!

Might I suggest that when you come home from your camping trip that you set your tent back up and do a good cleaning. This way when you hit the trail again its ready right then. When you put your tent up store all of your camping equipment together, it makes it easier to find when you want to go again. Take a broom with you when you go camping at a camp site. Seems that is one item that you overlook cause your going to get sand, dirt, grass and who knows what else in the tent makes cleanup easy. When your going camping remember your OUTSIDE even when your in a tent. take clothing that's going to keep you warn at night and cool during the day, the only thing between you and the "outside" is a thin peace of material and that's it. Have fun and enjoy our country its yours to enjoy.

Take a pen and paper on your next camping trip and as you go about, write down all the things you forgot or the things you KNOW will make a difference next time. Now I never going camping without my candelabra and martini glasses! chin chin darlin'.

I love camping and try to go several times a year. I have found keeping a notebook and filling it with equipment checklists, travel plans, camping ideas and things to do helps me plan my camping trips. It saves me time because I don't have to start the planning from scratch each time. I always use a checklist before I go camping otherwise I will forget something. If you have time check out excitingcampingideas.com this site will help you come up with ideas for future camping trips.

It helps if you don't have to haul so much stuff. One thing that helps is to wait to buy things like paper towels, toilet paper, insect spray, and large food items until after you have set up at your camp site.

Another thing that helps is to take along some dehydrated camping foods which are light weight, not bulky, easy to pack, and easy to prepare. That way you'll save space to pack other important items.

I think that this checklist is the best camping checklist on the whole entire planet. Never in my life have I came across or experienced a more useful and appropiate checklist for this occasion. It was so helpful, and now thanks to you, I can bring with me, and I will bring with me, all of the necessary items that the average person would need on a camping trip. Do you know of any places that I can buy the items listen above, such as the sleeping, bag, book, etcetera, etcetera, etcetera, (if that's even how you spell it) if not, etc., etc.,etc.! I would insert a smily face at this moment right now, but you see, there is no smiley face button icon on the top that will allow me to add certain smiley or frowny faces to this comment, not that I have any intent whatesoever of ever putting a single smiley face on this comment blurb. Oops, I think this blurb is running a bit to long because I'm looking at the couple of words on the bottom, saying i have 961 words, left up,so I will stop now!!
