Checklist of Camping Equipment
So my job is to sort out a camping checklist of all the things we need to take camping with us. And as I was writing it I thought I might as well add it to a lens and share the list love.
And her job is to sort out some entertainment for the kids and different activities. I found this site on camping games quite handy and she likes it aswell.
Camping Checklist - Necessities
Checklist of Important Camping Equipment
- Tents
- If not going to bail out and rent a caravan you will need a good tent.
- Sleeping Bag
- It gets pretty cold outside in the rough so you'll be needing a good warm sleeping bag.
- Camping Mat & Air Mattress
- The ground can be pretty hard and a bit bumpy, so you have 2 choices, you can live in luxury with an air mattress or slum it on a camping mat.
- Torch
- Torches are a must, it gets very dark on the way to the toilet in the middle of the night. It is bad enough with all the insects but I at least want to see them and not step in cow-doo on the way.
- Pen Knife
- Pen Knives are really handy when you try and open the bacon packet in the morning whilst making breakfast. Lets be honest, a good english breakfast is a must for any camping trip.
- Rucksack
- If you plan on going hiking then you'll need a pretty sturdy but light rucksack. I think the wife has a little field trip planned so I might have to pack a few of these for the kids to carry :)
- Satnav System
- I think our field trip is going to be over the welsh mountains and I know how good my wife's sense of direction is so I need a satnav, just one of the portable ones so we dont get too lost.
Checklist of Not So Important Camping Equipment
Non Essentials Camping Checklist
- Apple iPod touch 32GB MP3 Player
- My wife wont go anywhere without her iPod touch MP3 Player and she just bought the 32GB one so the music lasts the whole week and even has some movies on it too.
- Bottle of Rum
- A nice bottle of rum for when the kids are asleep and us grownups can relax with nice glass and watch a movie on her iPod touch, now this is camping.
- Coffee
- A nice drop of espresso coffee in the morning is a perfect accompanyment to any outdoor camping trip. So might say an essential.

Nice list, some few remarks:
- I'd swap the bottle of rum with a bottle of single malt Scotch whisky, and put it in the "essentials" list :-)
- The satnav system is nice, but cannot replace map & compass. GPS systems tend to come with special batteries that run out on the right moment one is lost....
