My Favorite Camping Sites for Winter Fun

CarrbridgeMy favorite camping sites for winter fun have more to do with how comfortable I am than whether I can hope for my next meal to swim past or wander by at just the right moment. I must admit, I have not done a whole lot of camping, unless you count sleeping in the car while traveling as major camping experiences. Still, there's a lot to be said for making winter better by finding any means possible to hurry it along an' let the warm weather take its place.

As the snow piles up around the house, extending for miles an' miles an' miles... I like to find unique ways to decorate so's my home has a feeling of beauty an' a decor that is unique from all others. If you'd like to learn one of my favorite camping sites an' decorating tips for winter, keep reading. You may find that this becomes your favorite, as well.

Mother Nature and Her Unique Camping Sites

Fun In Camping Sites

Western MA Winter SceneSometimes, Mother Nature provides some unique perspectives on what is fun in camping sites. Just as Mother Nature offers so many clever ideas for camping sites, so I have come up with my own handy twist to keep me close to home.

Although this may look like one of the ideal home decorating an' camping sites to the die-hard camper, I don't personally find it all that appealing as a camping site. On the other hand, if I am warm an' toasty indoors an' looking out at this lovely scene, it is certainly perfect for looking through picture windows; don'tcha think?

Camping Sites are Everywhere

Mother Nature Knows How to Play

Inviting Mother Nature to Join UsLook around and you will see that camping sites are everywhere. Mother Nature knows how to play and she knows how to decorate. Therefore, doesn't it just make sense to take our clues from Mother Nature when we wanna' decorate an' create our own camping sites? I say, let Mother Nature join in the fun.

Gather your sleeping bags, your tents an' your camping gear an' follow me. We are gonna' invite Mother Nature to join us.

I thought the following photo would be more appropriately named "A Family in the Making."

All Those Lonely Snowmen from Camping Sites

Let's Invite Them In

Snowmen Coming to VisitHave you ever noticed all those lonely snowmen from camping sites with hardly any visitors during the winter season? Well, let's invite them inside. After all, they must get mighty cold, sitting outside alla' time.

There is a famous inscription on the James Farley Post Office in New York City that reads, "Neither snow nor rain nor heat nor gloom of night stays these couriers from the swift completion of their appointed rounds."

Although this inscription is not, as commonly thought, the official creed for the US Post Office, I feel compelled to state the obvious; that snowmen are at least as loyal to this statement as US Postal Carriers. So, don'tcha' think it would be neighborly of us to share summa' our warmth with the snowmen who spend so much time outdoors, making our lives fun? I do.

This is a Great Camping Site

We Should Always Camp at Home

Koala VisitI think you will agree that this is a great camping site. We should always camp at home and invite the neighbors in to share the fun. In this way, we won't hafta' be out in the cold an' wind an' we'll have all kinds of conveniences that simply are not available in the wild, to be honest.

There are other benefits to having your camping sites at home that you may have not thought of. For one thing, there are very few bear attacks inside the home. Another good point is that you will save all that gas money by not having to drive to another camping site. And you don't wanna' forget that if you didn't catch your limit today, you can still go to the fridge an' fish around in there for somethin' tasty. Jus' sayin'...

Oh, yeah; an' there's always the fact that you are changing-up your home decor to ward off those nasty winter blues.

You always have such a unique perspective on things Yaya! Perhaps next winter I will go camping and stay indoors or maybe invite my friends over to camp here.
  • YayasHome Mar 18, 2012 @ 4:38 am | delete
I wished to enjoy the whole idea of camping, without having to actually sleep on the ground or suffer any unnecessary inconveniences. This seemed like the perfect solution.
  • leahjsongs Mar 12, 2012 @ 1:27 pm | delete
Haven't been to mine in a long time. I had two: one in childhood with my family, the other as a young adult. The first was near Erie, PA at Clear Creek State Park, in a cabin by the creek. The second was Camp Inspiration Hills in Burbank, OH where I spent a weekend each winter with young adults in Cherry Lodge for a spiritual life retreat through all four years of college.

I never did attend any camps as a child an' always wondered what it would be like. In my entire life, I've slept exactly one night on the ground. Sad to say, I did not find that it was something I was anxious to repeat. LOL

I really dislike being out in the cold and snow. But I love enjoying the beautiful winter wonderland from inside my home, where I'm nice and comfy.
  • YayasHome Mar 18, 2012 @ 4:33 am | delete
So, you see? Camping indoors is the perfect solution for you, eh? :)
  • lbrummer Jan 29, 2012 @ 7:14 pm | delete
The only kind of camping I want to do during the winter is in the family room with a big bowl of popcorn.
  • YayasHome Jan 29, 2012 @ 7:47 pm | delete
Why, yes! You have captured the image of my perfect camping sites and home decor exactly! I can jus' see you inviting the snowmen in an' providing for their comfort, as well as your own. I think, if you jus' move a freezer in next to your fireplace, the snowmen will be as cool an' comfortable as you are warm an' toasty, by the fire. Jus' be sure to make plenty of room so's they can sit 'Inside' the freezer.

I've always wanted to try winter camping -- the outdoor kind. But then, one of the things I miss about the upper midwest is shoveling snow. People think this is weird for some reason.

I really liked your take on home decorating as done by Mother Nature. Blessed!
  • YayasHome Jan 29, 2012 @ 7:42 pm | delete
I like the way you think. Shoveling snow does have its brighter side. I also enjoy it, although as I've gotten older, I find that I enjoy it for shorter periods of time than I used to. Now, I tend to be more entertained by sitting at the window an' watching winter do her own thing, whilst I stay warm inside.

Mother Nature always seems to have a particularly unique an' pleasant way of putting the perfect touch on everything, if you ask me. My decorating talents have not quite reached that point of perfection, yet, so I naturally like to ask Mother Nature for her help whenever I can.
  • WordCustard Jan 24, 2012 @ 11:56 am | delete
I agree with you, Yaya, in winter I'd rather camp at home. There are lots of little things we can do to make it a fun experience that feels like 'real' camping!
  • YayasHome Jan 29, 2012 @ 7:38 pm | delete
I think if the snowmen didn't have that nasty little habit of melting an' leaking all over the floor, people would have pro'lly thought of inviting 'em indoors a long time ago. Still, better late than never, I s'pose. An' I did post the Portable Camp Toilet for sale, just in case any of the snowmen were prone to any Little Accidents. It's always best to be prepared, don'tcha' know?
  • TheLittleCardShop Jan 23, 2012 @ 10:31 pm | delete
I have gone camping several times and love it. Getting in touch with nature is a very pleasant experience. Camping at home in your own backyard can be fun too! We set up a camping site at home, my kids invited their friends over and they had a great time. :)
  • YayasHome Jan 23, 2012 @ 11:41 pm | delete
Oh; did you think I was writing 'bout camping in the back Yard?!? No, no. It's cold out there. I think we should jus' bring the little snowmen inside. Lots warmer in here, don'tcha' know?
