How To Choose A Camping Water Filter

If you're into camping, I'm with ya! Camping and outdoor hiking can be very rewarding. It's a lot easier to do it when you have a good camping water filter in your backpack. Everyone needs water to survive for long in the wilderness. I've done 3-day hikes where we packed in our own water in gallon jugs - trust me, that's not easy to do. I've also done camping where we didn't filter our water, we dropped iodine into it. This can be hard on your system after a while, and, as I found out, it also makes your teeth yellow!

With a good camping water filter, you can easily and safely filter and drink ground water that you find in mountain streams and lakes along your route. Activated charcoal filters and water microfilters can get rid of bacteria and cysts that can make you sick.

Choosing the right camping water filter is definitely a good investment in the enjoyment of your next camping trip.

Which Type Of Camping Water Filter Is Best?

Water Microfilters and UltraViolet Water Sterilizers Are Both Popular And Effective.

There are a number of popular brands of camping water filters to choose from. At our camping water filter store, we have two of the most popular: Katadyn and SteriPEN.

Katadyn filters are microbial filters that remove gyardia and other sickness-inducing organisims from your water before you drink it. There are a lot of popular Katadyn filters and sizes. The Katadyn Hiker Pro is probably the most popular. We also have personal water bottles that come with a filter built in, which is very cool. As well as group-sized water filters for use at cabins, camp sites, remote hunting lodges and other places where it's not easy to access a large supply of clean water for the population you have to feed. These large capacity water filters are also often used at emergency disaster sites where water lines may have been broken or water supplies contaminated.

The other big brand of water sterilizer is SteriPEN. SteriPEN products are actually more water purifiers than they are water filters. They use ultraviolet light to kill organisms and bacteria in the water. They run off of batteries or the 12-volt charger in your car. They can last for thousands of hours of use and are a great way to sterilize and purify your camping water.

And naturally we also have a number of other water bottles and water filter replacement cartridges, parts and accessories. If you're going into the woods and want to have access to plenty of fresh water, check out our Camping Water Filter Store today!
