How To Write Camping Equipment Lists
As Easy As 123 - Or Is It?
I am sure everybody is used to writing lists. Whether it be shopping lists, chores to do lists, or the old favourite, tasks to achieve lists. (This is the kind of list that as fast as you tick it off, you keep adding to it) Now these are fairly easy to compile as you literally list items down and tick them off when you have completed them. However constructing a camping equipment list is a little bit more complex and requires a little bit more thought.Step 1- Category Headers
The first step is to think of 5 or 6 sections or headers where everything will be categorized under, These categories are better being more generalized than specific. For example headings like, bedding, shelter, clothing, cooking, personal, and miscellaneous are ideal for this exercise.
Step 2- List Building
Next we have to list everything that you think you will need for your camping trip and try to slot the items into each category, This serves two purposes: Firstly when trying to find the item on the list it will be quicker to find rather than scrolling down a great long list, and secondly, if you pack it in the way that you have categorised it
everything will be together.
Step 3- Check and Re-check
This is basically going through our camping equipment lists and making sure there is nothing that has been missed or indeed whether there is something you don´t really need to take. Do this several times until you have a properly formulated list of what to take on your camping trip.
Step 4- Order Sorting
The last step to do is to go through each category and number it from one to however many categories you have, in the order that you want it packed. The last number being the items you need first. So for example, say you have 6 main categories. one of them being "shelter", this is one of the first things you need to do when you get to a camp site, therefore, this needs to be number 6 as it will be packed last.
If you follow all these steps when compilng camping equipment lists you will find that you will be not only incredibly organized, but also you will probably have a more enjoyable trip.

Camping Equipment Lists - What To Take
Whilst compiling camping equipment lists can be quite a daunting experience, especially if you have never camped before, the first thing that crosses peoples´ minds is "What do I take?"In order to answer this question you need to take into consideration a few factors. These are:
Length Of Trip
This will ascertain to a certain extent how much equipment you will need
Location Of Trip
The location of your trip will determine what type of equipment you will need. For example, if you are hiking or camping in the back country you are more likely to need to be totally self sufficient, as opposed to a camping site, where there may well be an on site shop if you happen to run out, or forget to pack anything.
There are no hard and fast rules when deciding What to take camping. Obviously staples like, a good tent, sleeping bags, food and water are a must. But then it is up to the individual. You may want your campsite to be a little "home from home". In this case, you would need to take more equipment with you. However if you adopt the minimalist lightweight form of camping then you would tend to take just the necessities that you would need for your camping trip, and nothing more. Most people fall somewhere in the middle of these two categories, and the more trips that you do the more you will know what works for you.

- A very good idea. Though i confess that on some occasions I have simply grabbed what I think of. Didn't turn out as badly as it might seem, but I now recommend always having a list in advance.
