Losing Weight by Drinking Water

Drinking water can play a major part in weight loss. It may begin to sound like a contradiction so bear with me, it will all fit in place and become very clear (pardon the pun). This isn't a fad diet or meal replacement.

The popular mantra is drink two litres of water per day - when I first embarked upon drinking that quantity of water; I visited the toilet just about every time I moved. Fortunately as my body got used to this new regime and vast intake of water compared to none at all previously.

Two litres of water a day is a lot to drink for anyone not used to drinking water on a regular basis, so give it time you will soon realize that spacing this amount of water out over the course of a day is not going to be difficult at all. Just don't drink two liters all in one go! Set a routine and it will become second nature. Perhaps a glass or two every couple of hours would suit you best.

Real Weight Loss With Water

A real bonus with drinking water regularly to lose weight is that it stops the 'snacking' because it reduces hunger. It is likely that when we feel hungry, we are actually thirsty and dehydrated. To prove this theory, instead of reaching out for a snack when you think you need food, try drinking a glass of water instead. The hunger goes! That alone massively reduces your calorie intake.

Here is another reason why water can help in weight loss; the more water we drink the less water our bodies feel the need to hold onto.
This is where I mentioned about it sounding like a contradiction. If you are not drinking enough water then you will have a tendency to be bloated and that will increase your weight. How does that work?

Water is not a food replacement

Water can help you to lose weight but an increase in physical activity together with smaller portions of food will help with weight loss.

Losing weight with water

When our body is not taking in sufficient water it goes into panic mode and instead of urinating to release fluid it holds onto the water within because it fears dehydration.

Thus drinking plenty of water throughout the course of the day will stop your body from the panic and hoarding water. This is because your body now knows that it is going to be regularly supplied with water and remain hydrated.

So, plenty of water going in will mean your body will reach the point where it naturally lets go of water from your body and you will naturally begin to drop the pounds.

Natural Detox

This really is one of the key elements of how water help to lose weight can work. So, your body now trusts that it will receive a constant supply of water, it knows it doesn't need to store it and will be happy to release it in full confidence that another glass is on its way.

Water can also flush out the build-up of toxins from the body. This natural detox will help get rid of a lot of bad stuff that has languished in your system. So, before you begin with a coffee, start your day with a glass of water , this will rehydrate your body after a night's sleep. Apart from refreshing you, it will instantly kick start your body's metabolism ready for the day ahead.

If you are looking to lose some weight, fill yourself with water and keep well hydrated because water is the ideal drink for weight loss.

Bottled Water or Tap Water?

You might be surprised to learn that about a quarter of bottled water for sale worldwide is tap water, yep, filtered tap water.

If you have images in your mind of a couple of people filling bottles with tap water from their kitchen, think again - both Pepsi and Coke market filtered tap water in bottles.

Not too long ago, Good Morning America (the TV show) conducted a blind taste test comprising different types of drinking water and asking the studio audience to taste the difference and then say which tasted the best.

The clear winner (pardon the pun) was New York City tap water, when you think that Evian was among the tasting samples, that says a lot for tap water!

Okay, tap water might taste as good, or better than expensive bottled water but is it safe? All modern developed countries conduct stringent water tests for contaminants

Water definitely helps clear out excess fluid. It's all I drink. As for my most successful diet...hmm, cutting out carbs in the evenings is always a sure way to drop quickly. ;)

Glad to see someone pointing out the fact that bottled water is not always what the buyer thinks it is, and is sometimes nothing more than filtered tap water. (I even wonder if it is always, always filtered!)

"..the more water we drink the less water our bodies feel the need to hold onto." Now that makes sense and is something I sure didn't know. We don't want our bodies going into a panic an bloating! Good information and a strong encouragement to drink plenty of water, if not for weight loss, to detox our bodies. Very well done and informative. I have the opposite problem, trying to keep weight on.
