The Candida family of yeast is the most frequent cause of yeast infection on the skin. The medical name for this is candidiasis.
Yeast is a fungus which lives on our skin normally. Though there are many varieties of Candida the most common type is Candida albicans.
Candida fungus normally live on the skin. The fungus prefers warm moist areas like the mouth, vagina, or in skin folds. But Candida also will will grow when the top layers of skin break down.
