Having a Period and Still be Pregnant - Answers

It's the uncertainty that causes the worry!

Some experts tell you that you can't have your period and still be pregnant. This is due to the hormone change in your body as your normal menstrual cycle stops. There is however a small minority of women who have bleeding or spotting during pregnancy that can be similar and mistaken for a period. This can last for a few months or even the whole time of the pregnancy in a very few cases. This confusion is the reason why so many women are asking the question "can you have your period and still be pregnant?"

Spotting may occur when the fertilised egg embeds itself into the uterus wall. This bleeding is often referred to as "implantation bleeding". It is lighter and lasts a shorter time than a normal period.

If you mistakenly count this as your normal period then it can make the calculation of a due date more difficult. If you have any doubts of the date of your last period then it is advisable to have your doctor carry out a pelvic examination to establish how advanced your pregnancy is. It is now common to get an ultrasound and this enables the experts to measure and size and see the stage of development your baby has reached and can predict the due date with more accuracy.

The majority of women who experience some bleeding in early pregnancy go on to have a normal pregnancy and delivery. However, bleeding can be the first sign of a miscarriage and you have to be aware of this. The symptoms will become pronounced with heavy cramping of the stomach and heavy bleeding.

Any unusual bleeding or pains in your lower abdomen should never be ignored as it could be the first signs that you may have an ectopic or tubal pregnancy and you should see your doctor as soon as possible. Any concerns you may have should always be checked out by your doctor as sometimes a home pregnancy test can show negative and can only be confirmed by a blood test.

If you experience any bleeding in the early stages of pregnancy, you should get the expert help of your doctor or midwife. They can assess your condition quickly. They are the professionals and can get a blood test to check your hCG levels or even an ultrasound if they think it is required.

I hope the above article helps to answer questions you may be having like "can you have your period and still be pregnant" and will remove any uncertainty and worry you may be having.

Good Reading if You are Trying to Get Pregnant Quickly

So often we take for granted that it will be so easy to become pregnant. Sad to say but this not always the case. Anyone in this position will testify to that, so I thought it a good idea to offer something here that may be of assistance.

A recommended read for anyone trying to get pregnant is the book "Fertility Secrets" by The Doctors Wife who is pictured on the right. She has learned these secrets from her doctor husband and tells us things the medical profession hoped we would never find out about. She gives plenty of information on how to get pregnant using natural methods and avoiding expensive VIF treatment and fertility drugs.

This is a no holds barred book packed with all the information for anyone, or even there friend, who is Trying To Get Pregnant. Click the link for more information.

Symptoms of Pregnancy in the First Week

Below this article you will find a list of common signs experienced when becoming pregnant. By understanding more about your body you will avoid questions coming to your mind like, can you have your period and still be pregnant?

One woman will have different signs of being pregnant from another. It is possible to have some of these signs, none of these signs or even all of these signs. Another point to bear in mind is that a woman who is about to have her period can have the same symptoms, which can cause further confusion.

If you suspect that you may be pregnant, then use your intuition, sometimes that gut feeling may just be correct and you should carry out a pregnancy test as soon as you possibly can.

I would recommend that you purchase a pregnancy testing kit which can be bought from most chemists. This is a straightforward pregnancy urine test and if you follow the instructions provided, it should give an accurate answer.

*** A missed period
*** Food cravings
*** Tender and swollen breasts
*** The skin around your nipples gets darker
*** More frequent urination
*** Constipation
*** Fatigue and tired feeling
*** An increase of discharge
*** Mood changes
*** Stomach pains
*** Sickness or nausea in the morning, afternoon or night
*** A change in taste, i.e a dislike to tea, coffee and other favourite foods and a metallic taste in the mouth.

Hi.. I had sex, May 22nd, I was puking the following morning and the next. My stomach is hurting like crazy and I was due for my period the day after I had sex, but it hasn't come yet. I know its only 2 days after, but I think I'm pregnant. I had a misscarrige at 4 weeks before and I had the same syptoms. Is it possible i can be pregnant with the puking only after 2 days? It was unprotected sex and I'm not on birth control.

    hello!
So, even though I have been having sex for a while, it turns out that I was not very well-informed about it. My fiance and I have been together for three years, and we do not use condoms, and i am not on birth control, and I have not even had one pregnancy scare.
However, when we spilt about six months ago due to family issues, I hung out with an old ex and one thing lead to another, I got Pregant, but, my body could not carry it, therefore I had a misscariage,
Now, I am back with my fiance (worked things out), and we had sex unprotected, right after I was ovulating and I honestly did not think ANYTHING of it..
Well, now. I don't know if I am pregnant again, I had none of the symptoms with my first pregnancy as I do now, I have breast tenderness, just my nipples for the most part, I get nauseous, but never vomit, I feel HUGE amounts of pressure on my pelvic area, I have a hunger that can't be satisfied, but with my other, I did not.
Yesterday, May, 22nd, I had light pink discharge, but I thought it was my period, because I start on the 23rd and it lasts about 6 days,
I woke up this morning to light brown discharge, and now my bleeding is heavier. but not enough to were a pad, barely enough for a panty liner.
And I am not really cramping all to bad, just pressure. I am SO SO SO confused. Am I beginning my period, pregnant, or both?

    help. me. please.

My husband and I are trying to have a baby and I have been feeling really sick but just got my period today (which is early) and it seems very light. I am a small person I weigh only 100 pounds and I'm 5'6 and 23 years old. I have taken a home pregnancy test and it was negative but I "feel" pregnant. Could I be?
