Message friends and family instantly

Text messaging is in wide usage in Canada as a means to get an instant message into the hand or pocket of a friend no matter where they are.

It is offered by all providers at varying rates depending on the plan chosen.

Initially a way for younger people to communicate, it has now evolved into a method of communication used by people of all ages.

Texting charges

Depending on one's contract, they may incur charges as a result of text messaging.

In the vast majority of cases, a charge is applied on sending a message as opposed to receiving a message. Charges are typically in the range of 10 to 15 cents per message, but can vary all the way up to unlimited texting on a proper plan.

Text messaging in the workplace

Depending on your place of work, employers may be cracking down on the usage of text messaging during company time. At the same time, some accept it as a common part of everyday life and would prefer an employee deal with a request via a text message compared to a phone call.

Regardless, many businesses now have policies in place related to texting. This ranges from employees needing to have cell phones turned off in the workplace, to allowing texting on coffee breaks, to relying on the honour system that it will be used only when necessary.

Texting via the web

For when you don't have access to a cell phone or if you just prefer the speed and ease of typing on a keyboard, all major Canadian carriers have portions of their website that may be used to send a text to their subscribers.

As well, several sites exist that further enhance the usability of web text messaging all the while allowing you to text multiple providers from the same site. Once such site is TXTit.ca.

In all cases, sending a text via the web is done free of charge. Depending on a person's carrier and contract, they may incur charges for receipt of the message.

Please see the links below for places on the web that you can text Canadian phones.
