Advantages of staying in a Vacation Home compared to a hotel
Most travelers think of booking a hotel whenever they travel. There may be many reasons for this, but the biggest among them has to be that most people do not think they have any options.

For vacationers, there's an affordable, comfortable and convenient alternative to booking a hotel room. It's renting a whole house.

Ideally, it's a win-win for both parties; owners rent their homes as an investment and other vacation travelers get more for their money with a vacation home, often quite a bit more.

Hotel rooms don't have the extras that make a home rental even more of a deal and that add to the pleasure of vacationing. Actually hotels rooms do have one extra, it is called surcharges. Charges to park your car, for phone calls, wake up calls and for using the internet.

In a hotel room, there's a television, a desk and a bed but many vacation rentals have multi rooms, big screen TV's, stereos, DVD players, barbecues, fenced yards, game rooms, pool tables and other family-friendly alternatives all under one roof.

Vacationers who stay in vacation homes don't seem to feel as compelled to see every tourist oriented activity in the area. They stay around the home more and relax, which is what makes vacation rentals so special. For instance, many vacation homes homes offer full kitchens and barbecue grills. Families can save big money by eating in rather than eating in restaurants.

When planning a vacation, there are several advantages to looking at booking vacation homes over other forms of accommodation such as hotels. A vacation home allows you to enjoy all the benefits of a house, instead of just a room, even though you are on vacation. This means you can enjoy the multi rooms, a yard and fully equipped kitchen. Vacation rentals give you tons of space. This is especially appealing for families. With a vacation home, you have room to breathe instead of being cramped up in a hotel room.

Much more appealing and affordable than cramming the entire family into one or two cramped hotel rooms, all this space affords you more freedom. It's like a home away from home. Besides more space, vacation homes provide privacy. No noise from strangers staying in the next room or from the hallways. nor do you have to be concerned about keeping anyone up with your activities. You get up when you want, no knocks on the door with "house keeping." It is true that you have to make your own bed and meals but this is relatively minor considering the money you save from the surcharges, parking fees and taxes that hotels charge.

Vacation homes provide choice in many styles and price ranges from luxury to cozy and comfortable. You have the option of choosing something large and lavish to something appealing to a more quaint cottage lifestyle. No matter where you want to spend your vacation, there is a good chance that vacation homes are available to meet the needs of both your budget and your lifestyle. Booking a vacation home is practical, convenient and easy.

Vacation Rentals Guide

Unlike a typical hotel room, vacation home accommodation in houses, apartments, villas, condos or flats offer more space, kitchen facilities, multi rooms, free parking and often a yard. Now families can vacation together with comfort, convenience and room to stretch.

Why rent a vacation home?
The benefits of vacationing in a vacation home versus staying in a hotel are:
More Space
Instead of a hotel room, vacation rentals allow the entire family to stay under the same roof. This kind of accommodation is well-suited for both short term and extended stays.
More Amenities
Vacation homes offer more amenities than hotels, such as multi bedrooms, fully equipped kitchens, fireplaces, and private hot tubs and pools.
More Privacy
Free from the environment that comes with noisy hotels, privacy is one of the biggest benefits of any vacation home rental.
Renting a vacation home typically requires signing an agreement with the vacation property owner. This agreement is legally binding and provides more detail than the standard form you might find at a hotel.  It is important to read the agreement and pay very close attention to cancellation and refund policies.
Check it out before you make payment. Because each property owner has his or her own deposit and payment requirements, cancellation policies, etc., a vacation home rental guest must contact the property owner directly in order to book.
Ask lots of questions to make sure you are really getting what you pay for. If you are not satisfied with the quality of photos on the website, ask to see more. Insist on a phone conversation before you book. Get an official agreement from the property owner. Consider getting referrals.

Watch out for scams.

Any consumer needs to be alert to the possibility of a scam whether they are using the internet, a newspaper. magazine or other media.

A scam is a dishonest attempt to trap you into parting with your money.
There are always people who want to exploit others through a scam, regardless of what is being offered by or to you, be it a product on ebay, a motor vehicle you might have for sale in a local newspaper, and even vacation rental homes.
If a vacation rental owner insists your wire them money, beware it is a scam. Never wire money.
Please refer to our scams information.

How do I know vacation rentals are legitimate?
Ask for references and a list of past renters from the vacation rentals property owners. If possible, it is also suggested that you or a friend visit the vacation rental property in advance.
Deposit and payments.

Global advertises properties and we do not participate in any transaction between a renter and owner. Proceed with any payment at your own risk.
Most rental owners require a booking deposit of 20% - 50% to confirm the reservation, with full payment expected four to eight weeks prior to your arrival. All payments should be submitted as specified in the rental agreement in order to avoid losing your reservation and your booking deposit. You may also also be asked to provide a refundable security deposit upon arrival. Specifics related to the security deposit, including property maintenance, damages and additional fees such as telephone charges, should be detailed in the rental agreement. We are not involved in the actual transaction between visitors and/or members. As a result, the quality, safety or legality of the properties advertised, the truth or accuracy of the listings (including the content thereof or any property), the ability of members to rent vacation property or the ability of renter to pay for vacation rental properties are solely the responsibility of the users.

Tips on booking BC vacation rentals accommodation

Thinking about a vacation in beautiful British Columbia? Consider the smart alternative to booking a hotel room. For vacationers, there's an affordable, comfortable and convenient alternative to booking a hotel room. It's renting a whole house.

Hotel rooms don't have the extras that make a BC home rental even more of a deal and that add to the pleasure of vacationing.

In a hotel room, there's a television, a desk and a bed but many BC vacation rentals have multi rooms, big screen TV's, stereos, DVD players, barbecues, fenced yards, game rooms, pool tables and other family-friendly alternatives all under one roof.

Vacation Home Renters

Plan ahead
Many travelers begin planning their BC holiday six to nine months before their arrival date. Some families secure their vacation home in Whistler for Christmas and New Year, 12 months ahead of time. Some travelers rent the same house for the same period of time year after year. For the best choice of BC vacation rentals you should start planning your vacation as early as possible.

Know what you want
If you're like our family, you'll want to bring the family dog with you on vacation. Make sure pets are allowed. Have small children? You may need to check that the vacation home is equipped with baby gates for the stairs. If you are vacationing with a less able family member, ask if the vacation home is accessible. There are plenty of BC vacation rentals available - plan early for the best accommodation choices.

Read the fine print
Before making a commitment to any BC vacation rental property, be sure you understand the terms and conditions. As a renter you have a right to view the terms and conditions before you sign on the dotted line. Important things to consider include the rules, furnishings, cleaning and repair services, proximity to services you will need, financial arrangements and obligations, deposits, liability and property insurance.

Sometimes it pays to book last minute.
Even in the most popular time periods, supply can outweigh demand. As the high season approaches, some vacation rental owners will be offering better deals to fill the last of their rentals. If you are somewhat flexible with your travel dates and open to property amenities, you're likely to save money on vacation rentals by waiting for last minute deals.

Understand what you are getting for your vacation home booking
Some renters are concerned that the vacation home they booked isn't as nice as the photos they saw online.
Get a written contract. Don't rely just on an e-mail confirmation that you're booked for that week.
Ask specifically about amenities that are important to you: baby-proofing, linens, in-house laundry facilities, off-street parking.
Guarantee that those amenities are part of the deal by adding them to the contract.
If you can, visit the home before signing the contract.
Ask what's included in terms like ''fully equipped kitchen.'' To one person, that may mean a microwave and plastic plates; to another, it may mean enough gear to cook and serve a three-course meal.
Ask how and when the unit is cleaned, and if it's cleaned by professionals. If you want maid service, ask for the name of the housekeeping company and arrange for its staff to come by during your visit.

Avoid Scams
We have found most BC vacation rental owners to be honest and sincere about offering properties for rent. Never deal with any vacation rental transaction that requires you to wire money or send a money order. These are scams. Although most scams seem to be centered in the New York, Miami and London markets, it is possible that new ones, especially immediately before the winter Olympics may intrude upon the BC vacation rental market. Many of these scams advertise non-existent properties, on free advertising sites hoping to lure unsuspecting renters into their deceit. As a renter, contact rental properties on a reputable site and avoid scams by refusing to wire money and by doing your homework. If you are uncertain about a property get the address from the owner and search it out. Ask the owner local questions that they should know. If they can't answer your questions - move on to another rental.
