Canberra, Australia - The Australian National Capital

There is no doubt about it, I am a proud Canberran. This lens is a tribute to the city I love!

Canberra is the capital city of Australia and has a population of approximately 350,000 and is loated approximately 300 km south of Sydney and 600km north of Melbourne.

Canberra is also aproximately 200km north of the Snowfields and 200km west of the Australian south coast. I feel that we are often spoilt for choice.

I feel that Canberra is more like a large country town than a major city as it has been laid out to incorporate wide open green space.

A great ciy to raise our children in.... enjoy my lens on Canberra, Australia

Out And About In Canberra

Great Tourist Attractions In Canberra

Canberra has several important cutural and social landmarks and organisation that are well worth visiting. Our fair city has a number of fantastic historical and national monuments that are well worth visiting. These are not only for enjoyment, but many of our attractions are great from an educational point of view too. These include:

National Gallery of Australia
National Museum of Australia
Australian War Memorial
High Court Of Australia
Old Parliament House
New Parliament House
The National Portrait Gallery
The National Archives of Australia
Royal Australian Mint

One thing that many don't realize is that every book ever published in Australia MUST be kept in the National Library

Living in Canberra, I still have not visited all of these places - there is just so much to do!

Floriade - Canberra Hosts Australias Largest Flower Show

Floriade Is Just So Much More Than A Flower Show

I love Spring in Canberra, it is just so beautiful. However, one of the best things about Canberra is that it is host to the biggest flower festival in Australia.

Held each year in Spring, Floriade is set out in the beautiful area of Canberra's Commonwealth Park.

Each year, a theme is chosen and an army of workers layout garden beds, comprising million of blooms that create pictures to support the chosen theme.

Floriade is just so much more than a 'flower show' though. The local government uses the opportunity to enhance visitor education about better, more 'green', techniques for running and growing a garden and many local businesses take the opportunity to show case their products and services.

Floriade runs for approximately 30 days and each year, a theme is chosen and garden beds are laid to create pictures of the theme.

In 2008 Floriade will turn 21. I certainly remember the first Floriade! This will be one big celebration.

We use Floriade to enjoy the first days of Spring and generally make a 'Family Day Out' and enjoy it to the maximum.
