Time for A Treat!

One of my most memorable memories is choosing candy from the jar at my Gram's house. Most were of cookies and pastries that she recently cooked but going to the candy jar and choosing my own piece of candy individually wrapped up was exciting for a kid like me.

As I've grown up, my wife and I take special detail to candy jars we see at department stores and over the years we've accumulated a collection of them. Some more for cookies, either store bought or the homemade type. Some jars are more airy and others a secured tight. Some jars see through to see if you want to eat it before opening the jar and others you have to open the jar lid to find whats inside.

See if you can find a new candy jar to add to your selection. These make great gifts and are considered a creative gift with special thought when you give it to someone.

Licorice Topic

When it comes to the color of licorice you've got two choices to choose from; red or black. If it's red than usually your choices of brands in America are Twizzlers or Red Vine.

The Twizzlers with that cherry flavor and usually waxy feeling to it seems to be popular with the younger generation where Red Vine's have that sugar dark taste and easy to eat without the shiny look to it.

Twizzlers are made by Hershey's and come in these flavors; strawberry, cherry, raspberry, cinnamon, apple, mango, and watermelon. Where the popular Red Vine come in just the one flavor.

Black Licorice Fans

Many licorice fans that prefer black licorice as it resembles the taste moreover to the original taste of licorice have a different taste depending on where you live as different countries make it differently.

For example, North America uses a liquorice extract to get it's deep root flavor but in the United Kingdom they call their black licorice as licorice allsorts which has a mixture within every bit of black licorice, sugar, coconut, aniseed jelly, fruit flavor, and gelatin. (See photo as it's the United Kingdom licorice allsort candy)

The Dutch and Nordic countries use a different ingredient that others don't where they switch ammonium chloride instead of sodium chloride so that their licorice has a salty flavor to it.

With today's global market you can shop online to buy the preferred texture and taste that you remembered from your childhood. Which flavor would you choose?

Brings back so many memories. My Grandma had the penny candy jar...looked like a fish bowl with a silver top. In fact, she may have kept fish in it at one time !... Caramels were my favorite and she always had it filled when I visited.

    Wonderful lens. Blessed...
