Candy Crazy

Okay, so most of my lenses here on Squidoo are about scrapbooking and other paper crafts but, in my opinion, what is a good session of crafting without some delicious sugary candies to keep you going? Consequently, I spend nearly as much time discussing candy on my blog as I do crafts.

Let me make a key point here: I LOVE candy but, more importantly, I love CANDY. In my opinion, candy is candy and chocolate is chocolate. In fact, I think of chocolate as more of an ingredient than a food. In the same way that I enjoy butter on toast but wouldn't truly enjoy eating a STICK of it, I don't get very enthusiastic about plain chocolate. This lens is about PURE, unadulterated, artificially flavored, artificially colored candy. The kind with zero nutritional value. Just the way I like it. If you'd like to learn about chocolate or if, for cryin' out loud, you think craisins are candy, you have come to the wrong lens- move along, there's nothing to see here.

Red Vines v. Twizzlers

The licorice debate that tears our country apart.

Alright, so maybe it's exaggerating a bit to say this is a debate tearing our country apart but I DO believe that there is a red licorice divide in the United States. If you grew up on the West Coast, chances are, you are a Red Vines fan. If you're an East Coaster, I bet you think Twizzlers are the best. Me? I think Twizzlers bring to mind what a Strawberry Shortcake doll would taste like if you could eat one of those highly scented, plastic cuties. Which is to say, gross- regardless of how cute the doll is. I just wouldn't want to eat one hence I'm not a Twizzler fan (admitedly, I'm a West Coaster). Still, candy is candy- I'm not above eating a Twizzler or two. In a pinch.

Best Candy Autobiography EVER

(nevermind it being the only one I've ever read)

I seriously checked the front cover for the author's name a few times while I was reading this book the first time... for a fleeting second or two, I caught myself thinking, "Did I write this, send it to a publisher and then suffer some kind of author's amnesia?!" I could seriously have written a few of these chapters. Light-hearted, fun reading. I own it and have read it a few times. Warning, you'll NEED to have your favorite candies nearby while you read this. There's just no way to avoid it.

Candy and Me: A Girl's Tale of Life, Love, and Sugar

Amazon Price: $8.48 (as of 02/16/2012)Buy Now

Fun, candy-related autobiography. Every woman/candy addict will see a bit of herself in this light-hearted book. A good beach or plane book (again: have candy nearby- you'll be craving it before the end of chapter one!).

What do YOU think?

Chocolate Is Not Candy

As I've mentioned, candy is candy. Chocolate is, well, an ingredient or something to dip candy in. I will give a nod to (the not-really-chocolate) WHITE chocolate as being pretty delicious on it's own but I still better suited as a fondue dip for REAL candy. Like Red Vines.

Do you think chocolate is candy?

wlrph says:

How can chocolate not be candy??

If its something your Mom said would ruin your appetite, it has to be candy.

If its something that will make your hands sticky, it has to be candy.

If it melts and raises your blood sugar, it has to be candy.

You've got this one wrong Ang, sorry LOL

Most Wished For Candy

...according to Amazon anyway.

I am adding this strictly as a point of interest because this "most wished for list" gets updated every other day. Last time I checked, there were cinnamon toothpicks listed. I feel sad for the poor kid who asks for candy and gets a toothpick...
