Canine Bone Cancer...

Different Types

There are several different types of canine bone cancer. They are as follows:

1. Primary bone cancer - This is bone cancer that originates in the bone.

2. Metastatic bone cancer - This is bone cancer that has originated somewhere else in the body, but has traveled to your dogs bones via the bloodstream.

There are different types of primary bone tumors associated with primary bone cancer also. They are:

1. Osteosarcoma - This type of bone tumor is found mainly in the legs, shoulders, wrist and knees. It is very malignant and is very aggressive in dogs. Osteosarcoma develops inside the bone and grows out. Eventually destroying the bone from within, replacing regular bone with tumor bone. This tumorous bone is very fragile and can break with little or no effort. This pathologic fracture will not heal. Forcing the owner to choose between euthenasia or amputation of their dog. Early detection and intervention is encouraged with this type of bone tumor because of the chances that the cancer has already metastasized, or traveled.

2. Chondrosarcoma - This is bone cancer of the cartillage. This type of bone tumor is very rare. it also can travel to other parts of the body, most likely the lungs. Resulting in lung cancer.

3. Fibrosarcoma - This is a bone tumor that can come from the connective tissues of your dogs bones. This type of bone cancer can spread to other parts of the skin and is less likely to spread to other organs. It is most common in older dogs.

4. Hemangiosarcoma - This type of bone cancer is fed by your dogs blood. Hemangiosarcoma's start in the blood vessels, and can start anywhere in the body. They frequently spread to your dogs brain or spleen. Because of the nature of this type of bone tumor, prognosis is not good. One of the leading causes of death with hemangiosarcoma is a rupturing of the blood-filled tumor. Symptoms...

As you can see from above, canine bone cancer is very serious! That's why it is very important to try to catch the disease in its earliest stages. Once canine bone cancer is discovered, veterinarians assume that it has spread to other parts of your dogs body. This will later be confirmed through a battery of intensive tests. But you can do your best to avoid these by being ever vigilant and keeping a close eye on your dog. Making sure that if anything is out of the ordinary, it is reported to your local vet immediately!

Some of the sumptoms of canine bone cancer are:

1. Lameness - Meaning that your dog can no longer place his/her weight on that particular limb. They might be seen limping or licking the paw of the limb that is affected.

2. Loss of appetite - The loss of appetite in ANY dog is a cause for concern. It might not necessarily be cancer, but it is something to be worried about!

3. Weight loss - A direct result of loss of appetite.

4. Whimpering - He/she may be whimpering for no apparent reason. Something to check out, definitely!

5. Insomnia - Again, not necessarily cancer but, a sure sign that something is wrong because normally dogs will sleep ANYWHERE!

Causes...

The sad thing about canine bone cancer is in it's ability to travel, or metastasize, to other parts of the body. Also a very large group of dog owners don't realize what is going on until it is too late. That's why, just like any cancer, early detection is of utmost importance! The causes of 90% of canine cancer can be attributed to food. The foods that we are feeding our dogs are the worst kind of food: processed food.

If you have been paying attention to any kind of health news of the last decade, you would know that there has been a shift away from eating processed food for us humans. The consumption of processed food has been blamed for many of the diseases that plague us today. If we can do it for ourselves, then why can't we do it for our dogs? Your body cannot handle a lifetime of processed food, and neither can your dogs!

In the beginning it's no problem. But over the years, the chemicals and unregulated ingredients that are used to make processed dog food can cause havoc on his/her body. Resulting in the mutation of cells, better known as cancer. The dog food industry is a largely unregulated industry that pulls in more than a billion dollars a year! And it's a strange coincidence that wherever the population feeds its dogs a diet high in processed dog food, there is a problem with canine cancer.

To prove my point, you can look no further than your dogs closest cousin, the wolf. Have you ever heard of a wolf catching cancer? Never! Do you know why? Because they eat a diet rich in raw meat and bone! This is the diet that Mother Nature intended for our dogs. But we are so ignorant that we have decided to give our dogs what we think they should eat! Like it or not, our dogs are descendants of wild animals. They've just been domesticated.

When you change your dogs diet from processed food to one that is rich in raw meat and bone, you are essentially returning their bodies to a natural state. Your dogs body is very resilent and will respond IMMEDIATELY to the change! You will see an immediate change in his behavior, demeanor, attitude and disposition, and a change in his overall appearance.
