What People Say about the Canon 50D

Many reviewers liked that they got a serious camera for less than the $2,000-and-up price range of most professional cameras. One reviewer noted that the 15.1-megapixel CMOS does best when matched with good optics and recommended looking into a good Lens to go with your purchase. Less than 5 star reviews noted that it wasn't a vast improvement over the 40D and tended to produce more "noise" in pictures when using cheap lenses. Positives included a note that the Canon 50d is well suited for high-speed shooting and did well when snapping pictures while the subject was moving rapidly.

"It feels solid, reliable and 'well sorted' from an ergonomics point of view"~ dpreview.com

What People Say about the Canon 60D

One father liked this camera for taking pictures and video of his family and sold his old picture and video equipment after owning this for a week. He liked its performance in low lighting conditions, fast focus and fast shooting speed. He thought the video quality was pretty good for a picture camera too. Some reviewers didn't like the switch to a polycarbonate body and the fact that they dropped the shooting speed from 6.3 fps on the 50D to 5.3 fps on the 60D. One reviewer commented that it looked more like a souped-up version of the Canon Rebels than one of Canon's D cameras though this wasn't necessarily a flaw and he commented that, though it was polycarbonate, it still felt solid in his hand.

"It may have turned its back on the semi-pro, but the 60D is still a camera that should enthuse the enthusiasts."~ dpreview.com

Canon 50d

WL says:

60D does not have a PC sync. Need to buy expensive aftermarket cord to retain TTL functionality and fire a manual strobe at the same time. I just received my 60d. I may learn to love it later, but right now I am not happy.

If you are heavily invested in other xxD series accessories - batteries, CF cards, sync chords - you will have to start all over again with the 60d. I estimate it will be another $400 in accessories to get this thing in condition to cover a wedding.

If it's your first camera and you need to buy all the accessories anyway, or if you need video, it's a cheap version of the 7d. If you only shoot stills, or want to use all your existing accessories, stick with the 50d.
