Canon Powershot ELPH 100 HS Camera
If you're looking for a camera to take everywhere with you, the best digital pocket camera is the Canon Powershot ELPH 100. Besides offering great bang for the buck, the ELPH 100 is small (tiny!), light, and takes great pictures. I've had mine for about a year now and it's the easiest to carry point and shoot camera I've ever had my hands on. My previous camera was a Canon Powershot SD 1300 IS (still have it, still love it) but we needed a second camera. I know what marketing hype is all about so I had doubts about whether the ELPH 100 would be worth the extra money over the SD 1300, but my wife said "go for it" and I did. Bottom line? The SD 1300 is still a great point and shoot, but the ELPH 100 is even better...
Canon Powershot ELPH 100 - A Great Compact Camera
Easy to take with you everywhere...
Canon PowerShot ELPH 100 HS 12.1 MP CMOS Digital Camera with 4X Optical Zoom (Blue)
Amazon Price: $115.00 (as of 05/30/2012)![]()
The Powershot ELHP 100 takes great pictures and decent video, but the thing I like the most is it's so compact and light weight. It fits easily into my shirt pocket so I never miss a picture because I left the camera at home - this little camera goes everywhere with me.
Focusing Modes on the ELPH 100
Macro, normal, and infinity...
The ELPH has 3 focusing modes that are access by pressing the "flower" icon next to the Function Set button on the back of the camera. The 3 modes are Macro (for shooting very close subjects), Normal (for shooting "near and far" subjects), and Infinity (for shooting "far away" subjects). I found that with the camera set to Macro, I could easily focus on subjects as close as 1" from the camera Canon claims 1.2"). The close up pictures from my Powershot aren't quite as crisp as those taken with a more capable camera, but they're fun to take and the quality is more than acceptable.
Canon Powershot ELPH 100 HS Special Effects
For those who don't have a picture editing program...
The Canon ELPH 100 has several built-in special effects that can be useful if you don't own a photo editing program like Photoshop or GIMP. Built-in special effects include miniature, toy camera, monochrome, super vivid, poster, color accent, and color swap.
Super Vivid
Make your pictures really "pop"...
Shooting in Super Vivid mode can really make your pictures "pop." The 2 pictures below were shot at the same time, same light, same everything... except the one on the left was shot in regular (auto) mode and the one on the right was shot in Super Vivid. I think the one of the right looks a lot better even if the colors aren't as accurate. What do you think? (Clicking on either will let you view the full sized image)

Fun with Fisheyes

Powershot ELPH 100 HS Shooting Modes
The ELPH 100 takes more than just still photos...
Besides taking normal still photos, the ELPH 100 HS has several shooting modes to help you take specialized shots. These include Continuous Shooting at 3.4 frames per second, High Speed Burst at 8.1 fps, Stitch Assist, and Movie Digest.
