Canon Rebel XTi and T1i Digital SLR Cameras

The Canon EOS Rebel T1i digital SLR camera with its 15.1 MP resolution isn't really for the "once in a while" photographer but for one who want to take it through its paces and push it as far as it will go.

While not quite on the level of a $1,500 high end camera you will find that you are getting much more than from cameras in its price range ( and its price is surprisingly lower than you would expect.)

With many digital camera now also being used as video cameras it is important to look at the type of video a camera can take. The T1i takes full HD video with resolutions up to 1920 x 1080.but you also have the choice of shooting in SD video format. It comes with an HDMI output.

Although I like HD video a lot, if you are planning on sharing your videos with friends on online it's good to have the choice. If you have a slow internet connection, uploading an HD video to youtube can take up to 1 hour, so if you like to post a lot of videos, save the HD for the very important ones and use the standard quality for the ones that you want to upload quickly.

If you do shoot video you should know that the video sound in in mono and that there is no option for an external audio input - but you do have to remember that this is a digital camera and not a video camera.

This camera version comes with a EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS lens or you may purchase just the camera body and then purchase an different lens depending on your personal preference. You can choose from 60 different Canon lenses so you will surely find what you need, if you do decide to go with the camera body alone.

The camera does have a very nice 3" LCD screen which you will find is much more true to life than many you may have used before. It's also pretty easy to view in sunlight and you can also view it quite well from different angles.

I like the 14-bit A/D conversion which makes shooting in different lighting situations much cleaner and clearer. When speaking about lighting it's not just that you can take good photos low lighting and also when there is bright lights in different photos, but this addresses the situation when you may have both lighting situations in one photo. Often colors come out muddy or grainy but with 14-bit A/D conversion you'll find truer, more vibrant shades and tones.

The ISO range is 100-3200 and although you can push it with expansion to 6400 -12800, it's not recommended as the quality does suffer greatly. Not sure why you would need to push it up but if you decide to, just test it first and see what you think.

When many take their photographs they always try to get the exposure 100% correct with the dials in their camera. However, by over or under exposing your photos you can add depth, excitement, emotions and a personal quality to them.

You can't however just think that you can just underexpose them and they will all look terrific, you need to know how exposure affects the photograph and how that in turn affects the emotional aspect of it.
