Review: 5D Mark II the best in DSLR photography from Canon

This Canon 5D Mark II DSLR review is for my personal experience with the camera.

Choosing a Canon 5D Mark II DSLR camera can be a daunting task. When I was looking to buy my first Canon 5D Mark II DSLR camera I took about six months to research the market.

You see once you select a DSLR and team it up with a few lens you are then locked in, so I didn't want to be second guessing my selection.

To make the decision easier I hired a number of cameras and took them into the field to ensure that I had made the right choice.

My choice in the end was the Canon 5D Mark II DSLR Camera and I have to say that I love it and here is why I chose it......

The Canon 5D Mark II DSLR Review

Canon EOS 5D Mark II 21.1MP Full Frame CMOS Digital SLR Camera with EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM Lens

What is there to love about it............

Canon 5D Mark II DSLR Review: Was it the fantastic Canon 5D Mark II features

Lets see shall we..............

21.1-megapixel full-frame CMOS sensor and images of up to 5616 x 3744 pixels allows you to capture what you see instead of only a portion of it and delivers what you might expect from a 35mm camera.

The widest Canon ISO range available 100-6400 enables you to keep shooting even in very low light conditions, this camera also has noise reduction capabilities to give smooth images even at the higher end of the range.

Full HD video capture at 1920x1080 resolution for up to 4GB per clip gives you the option of still or video recording. The 5D Mark II was once use to shoot an espisode of the TV show 'House' to prove it's video capture capabilites.

Auto focus capabilites is sensitive to light and can compensate when there are multiple sources of light illuminating a scene. The auto focus also has nine auto focus points which the user can select from making auto focus a breeze with this camera.

The High Resolution Screen now while this might not seem like a big feature the anti-reflection and water repellant nature of this screen means that you can view the image you have captured or adjust your settings in any conditions.

Canon rules!

lisadh says:

I've always had Canons. They're great cameras!

getmoreinfo says:

Canon is easier to use in my opinion and I like to use it for taking pictures of my garden.

EdwardJames81 says:

HAving owned both Nikon and canon I have to say Canon. The build quality is excellent, the image quality is excellent and Canon are much more user friendly.

No way, Nikon rocks

grega85 says:

Nikon :)

rauspitz says:

I honestly don't think you can compare Canon to Nikon. Picture quality is much better. I also have a very expensive lens which makes all the difference in the world.

collettehrock says:

Please don't take offence I have to say Nikon because he's looking over my shoulder. I was given it for Christmas, I still don't know how to use it properly nor the software that came with it

Canon 5D Mark II DSLR Review - What's good, bad and ugly about it

Canon 5D Mark II

What's good about it

For me the weight was a hugh factor, as I had shattered my wrist a couple of years back, and I didn't want a camera that was too heavy and would make me head home early. I have shot all day with this camera with not problem at all.

The anti-dust feature was a big selling point for me, having had several images rendered useless by dust in the past. In this camera there are three features which are aimed at eliminating dust from your images - anti-static coating, a vibrating filter and a software based solution.

I haven't found a better camera for shooting in nature or landscapes the resolution of the 5D Mark II gives you all the resolution you will need to enlarge and exhibit your favorites shots.

The 5D Mark II's performance in low light conditions makes it a winner and allows you to continue shooting while maintaining great image quality.

What's not so good

No on camera flash means that you either do without it, which is difficult, or you have the added expensive of having to buy an on camera flash unit.

This camera is not as good for shooting action shots as the continuous shooting capability is a little slower than I would like.

The good news there is nothing ugly about it!

I like to get up close and personal so telephoto zoom is best

thewayeyeseeit says:

I am a fan of macro, so I use a Sigma 105mm macro lens on my Canon Rebel T3i.

getmoreinfo says:

since I like to take pictures of my flowers I would have to say the up close is the best.

EdwardJames81 says:

Telephoto for sports and wildlife for me.

No way, you miss all the atmosphere I like the wide angle the best

I like both a lot. How do you say which one you like more! If I could really only pick one, I think I would pick wide angle.

Loved the photos! My first 35mm film camera was a Canon and I've stuck with them ever since. You can't go wrong with a Canon. My current model is the T1i, but some day I aspire to have a camera as cool (and as pricey!!) as the 5D Mark II.
