Shooting Modes
These automated settings allow even beginners to capture outstanding images in specific conditions.

Auto
In this mode the Canon Powershot G9 chooses the settings for the user; a "no brainer".

P Program
This mode gives the user control of exposure compensation while other settings are determined by the G9.

AV Aperture-priority
In this mode the user determines the aperture setting to get focus on the subject or throughout the entire scene. The user's aperture selection will then dictate to the G9 which shutter speed to use.

AV Shutter-priority
Want to make use of stop or blur action? With this mode the user sets up shutter speed and the Canon Powershot G9 determines the right aperture. User's won't have to worry about noise even with slow exposure times thanks to Canon's noise reduction system.

Manual
This mode gives the user control of shutter speed and aperture when desired.

C Custom
Users can define and store settings to create the effects they desire.

Stitch Assist
Want to create amazing panoramas? This mode allows users to align sequential images to get a capture an entire scene.

Movie
With the Powershot G9 users can also shoot video:

high resolution (1024 x 768 at 15 fps)

VGA (640 x 480 at 30 fps/30 fps LP)

QVGA (320 x 240 at 30 fps) for up to 1 hour or 4GB, QQVGA (160 x 120 at 15 fps) for up to 3 minutes

or time lapse (640 x 480 at 1 second/2 second intervals) for up to 2 hours.

Special Scene Modes

Portrait
For a more professional look the Canon Powershot G9 will set a large aperture, creating an image with a sharply focused subject and blurred background.

Landscape
In this mode the G9 will give the greatest depth of field for a sharp focus throughout the scene using a small aperture.

Night Scene
In this mode the G9 provides proper exposure for night time and low light scenes while using a slow-sync flash for the subject.

Sports
Shooting fast action such as a football game? The Canon Powershot G9 will autofocus on the subject in this mode.

Foliage
The perfect mode for explosive color common in an autumn scene.

Snow
Shooting in a snow covered scene can be a lighting nightmare. Eliminate darkened subjects and the odd bluish tint commonly found when shooting on a winter day with this setting.

Beach
Bright sunlight can create shadows, users can eliminate darkened faces using the Beach mode.

Fireworks
Automatic adjustments to capture the quick and brilliant light of fireworks in a darkened sky.

Aquarium
Eliminate glare using this automatic flash-free exposure setting that results in life like color.

Underwater
Perfect for underwater images which have minimal backscatter effect. (Note: Waterproof case WP-DC21 must be purchased separately.)

ISO 3200
For users wanting even greater ability to shoot in very low light situations without the flash.

Indoor
With this setting, the G9 will capture indoor images with less blur and better color accuracy even without a tripod.

Kids and Pets
The perfect mode when trying to capture these moving targets!

Night Snapshot
Perfect when trying to photograph a person or animal versus a city skyline, fireworks, and so forth. The Canon Powershot G9 will adjust exposure for a brighter background while the nearby subject is lit by flash.

Color Accent
A special effect mode to to create a monochrome photo with a single accent color.

Color Swap
Don't like the color? You can change it.
