To get used to the feel of painting on canvas, start with abstract painting. Paint strokes of colors in the form of lines, paint geometric shapes like squares or circles, paint patterns in odd shapes linked together or even just splash paint on canvas for a real abstract effect.

You can also start your journey to painting on canvas with a simple flower design. Have a plain background (one color) and focus on the main flower. Don't paint complicated flowers with lots of intricate petals and details. Start with something basic like a daisy or tulips.
