Captain America, the alter ego of ailing Steve Rogers, first appeared in the March 1941 Timely Comics. Of course, you might know Timely Comics better as Marvel Comics these days.

But how did Captain America become so, well, super? Well, sit down dear and I'll tell you. With the US in the midst of war, ol' Steve Rogers took one for the team and allowed himself to be re-engineered by an experimental serum and Captain America was born! Cue the heroic music! Fighting against such evil tyrants as Hitler, Captain America soon became a favorite during World War II as he helped fight against the threats to American freedom.

First, you should start off by familiarizing yourself with Captain America's costume.

Captain America's costume consists of lightweight armor covered by a jumpsuit consisting of the colors of the American flag. The mask, which started out as a separate piece, was later attached to the suit to better secure his identity. His costume was topped off with red boots and gloves, as well as his trademark shield. His shield served not only as a protector, but could also be used as a weapon when thrown.
