Captivating Capiz

Capiz was believed by native of the province to come from the word "kapid" (which means twin). When the Spaniards settled in the place, they found it difficult to pronounce the word "kapid" thus giving birth to the name "Capiz". Some also believe (specially old people) that Capiz got its name from "kapis", a shell of the mollusk family that is very much abundant in the place. (Source: capiz.gov.ph)

The phrase "Captivating Capiz" is the Capiz governments' development vision or battle cry to promote the enchanting scene of sunset at Capiz Bay province as a tourist destination and envisioned to be the "Eco-Cultural Tourism Hub" in Visayas Region.

Captivating Capiz can be found in Region VI - Western Visayas of the Philippines. The capital city of Capiz is Roxas City which is the only city of the province plus Capiz has 16 municipalities, 473 barangays and 2 congressional districts. The governor of Capiz right now (2008) is Gov. Victor Tanco.

The official dialect of Capiz is called Capiznon or Hiligaynon. The province is the 30th smallest place in the Philippines in terms of area with a measurement of 2,633.2 square kilometer.

The province is very abundant with natural sea food products such as "talaba" or oysters, "diwal" or angel wings and other shell products plus other fish products such as crabs and milk fish. With this sources, the province produce a lot of dried sea food products. Aside from this mouth watering products, the captivating Capiz is also known to be producing and marketing cut flowers such as orchids, heliconias, anthuriums, roses, and other.
