So You Want to Sell Your Used Car Online...

So you want to sell your car, but where do you start? With over 80% of today's car buyers using the internet for research before contacting a local seller or dealership, listing your car online is one of the easiest and cheapest ways to get exposure for your used car. Below are some places where you should check out when you want to sell your used car or truck.

Online Classifieds

Places you should check out to sell your car

  • Craigslist - Craigslist has listings of used cars and trucks in your local area as long as you are near a large city. Selling your car on Craigslist is free but make sure you are careful about who you respond to. Not all inquiries are created equal.
  • EasyAutoSales - EasyAutoSales allows you to list your vehicle for free as well as upload unlimited pictures for each used car you post. You vehicles are also exported to major classifieds such as Vast, Oodle, AOL Autos, Walmart.com and backpage to get you more exposure across various properties on the Internet.
  • Cars.com - Cars.com is a well known paid classified that allows you to post vehicles on their website. The service does require a fee but they do also supply the listings for Yahoo! Autos.
  • eBay Motors - eBay Motors is great if you are looking to auction your vehicle. The fee to list a vehicle is $100 but it is currently one the most trafficked destinations for online vehicles.

Used Car Humor

Things to watch for when checking out listings.

Here is a guide to help you decode the real truth behind those classified car ads.
"What the ad says" - "What it actually means."

Must Sell - Before it blows up.
Same Owner For Last 20 Years - I'd never dream of selling it unless it was as bad as it is.
Hurry, Won't Last - Neither will the car.
Always Garaged - Embarrassed to leave it outside.
Family Owned - Driven by 6 teenagers
Nice Stereo - To overcome exhaust noise.
Good Investment - Can't be worth much less.
Frame-off Restoration - The body actually rusted right off the frame.
Appraised at $24,000 - By me.
Needs Nothing - Except a tow truck.
Project Car - I can't figure out how to finish it, and I doubt you will either.
Third Owner - To see the light and get rid of this piece of junk.
Looks Great - In Dim Light
