GPS Features

Most men dread the idea of stopping to ask for directions. Well with a GPS Navigational System you won't have to. Recently the prices of these have dropped and now anyone can add them to their car. Lot's of todays new cars come with GPS devices built in. If you have an older car or just want to choose what GPS model you want their are tons of choices. I am pretty sure all come with maps pre-installed. Many of the newest come with features like text to speech directions so you can keep your eyes on the road. Bluetooth so you can connect with your phone and keep your hands free. Some also offer subscriptions to traffic info. The newest from Navigon actually offers 3D maps but you certainly pay more for it.

Tom Tom

One of the coolest features of the Newest Tom Tom GPS is the sharing capability. Tom Tom users can upload and download the current road changes so they always have the most up to date maps. It has 2 gigs of memory for music and pictures. It has a smaller places of interest list than most others. But, it still has about 3 million places. If you have a compatible blue tooth phone with a data plan you can possibly get free GPRS traffic. If not to get TMC traffic you will need to buy a separate RDS-TMC antenna which comes with 1 year of traffic for $130. after the year traffic will be $60/year. It also offers easy rerouting if you miss a turn.
If you have a compatible phone with the data plan this seems like the best deal with traffic.

Magellan Maestro 5310

Magellan

The Magellan Maestro 5310 has one of the largest screens at 5 inches. So I don't think anyone will have trouble reading the display. Unfortunately it doesn't offer hands free blue tooth for your phone. But the Magellan 4050 and 3250 do. All of these ones do come loaded with maps, has text to speech, over 6 million points of interest, AAA roadside assistance and tour book. It comes with 3 months of traffic.

The 3100 is the cheapest but it is also the simplest, which could be a good thing. The 3100 is just a great GPS. No Mp3s, no blue tooth phone, no millions of points of interest. Instead it is simple and easy. It has good maps, smart detour to get you around slow traffic, has 750,000 points of interest instead of millions. so just the important places like restaurants and gas stations.
With AAA card you can save 15% on software and accessories at Magellan GPS

Garmin

Garmin is the largest GPS manufacturer. Garmin used to offer a yearly subscription to traffic info for $60. Recently they have changed to $60 for a lifetime as long as you still have a Garmin receiver.
The Nuvi 700 series can automatically dim at night and and a glare free.
They can tell the exact latitude and longitude of where it is with a simple push of a button. It will also name the closest intersection, hospital, gas station or police station.
The 780 offers MSN Direct for the first 3 months. After that it is an additional $50 a year. MSN Direct offers traffic, gas prices, stock quotes, news headlines, weather reports and movie times.
Garmin seems to have the best routing engine compared to Tom Tom and Magellan. Though Magellan is just slightly behind. Garmin chose the best route 3 out of 3 times. GPS Magazine test

Navigon 7200

Navigon

The newest Navigon (7200T) is the first with 3D landmarks and looks amazing with a frameless case. The 7200 also offers maps of all 50 states and has guides for restaurants and hotels.
The 2200 offers all of the main features but with a little smaller display for half the price.
The best thing about Navigon is that their latest models come with built in traffic reception and have a lifetime subscription.
