Caraway or Carom (Ajwain) Cookies -- Sweet and Salty Yumminess
Ajwain (caraway seeds or carom seeds) are great things. They do have a slightly bitter taste on their own but, in small quantities, they make things taste extra yummy. Also, they are good for the digestive system.
Caraway Seed Cookie Recipe

Ingredients
- 1 cup All purpose flour
- 1/4 cup vegetable oil
- 1 heaped tsp Caraway seeds (carom seeds or ajwain)
- 1 1/2 tbsp Sugar
- 3/4 tsp Salt
- 6 tbsp Milk
- 1 tsp butter
- 1 tbsp Yoghurt or curd (plain)
Instructions
In a mixing bowl, mix flour, oil, butter, caraway seeds, salt, sugar, milk and yoghurt until a totally smooth dough is formed. You can add a little more milk if necessary.
On a surface that has been dusted with flour, roll out the dough until it is about 1/4 of an inch thick. Cut out cookies with a cookie cutter (or just cut into your desired shapes). Use a fork to prick each piece so it will not puff up.
Place cookie pieces in a greased baking tray and bake in a preheated oven (180 degrees Centigrade) for 12 to 15 minutes. The cookies should be ready once they turn golden brown in color. Take them out of the oven and cool.
Place in an airtight jar or tin once cooled.
Notes:
-- When kneading the dough and you find some cracks keep appearing, add one or two tablespoons of milk.
-- The cookies tend to come out of the oven soft but no need to worry as they firm up and become crispy as they cool down.
-- Caraway cookies will taste better the day after baking

- I'm visit others who finished the cookie quest. When I was a young girl a lovely neighbor used to give my brother and me these cookies. I loved them but my brother didn't so I got to eat his too. Yum! I have never made them but maybe I will now. Blessings.
