Between all the dieting fact and fiction it can become difficult to discern what is true and what is false. In the midst of all the truth and lies the only ones losing anything are the people who honestly want to lose some weight in order to live happier, healthier lives or to feel a little bit better about themselves. One reason why it can be hard to determine the true statements from the false ones is that there tends to be a grain of truth in every myth. One of the more popular tips going around today is that cutting carbs can help you lose weight. Like I said before, because of that grain of truth, cutting carbs might actually work for some people and if it has that's great. However there are people who have tried this method and not had the same results. They are probably wondering why that is. It is for these people that I wrote this article and it is those same people that I hope take something from it. Why regular diets tend to not work
It's not actually hard to figure out why traditional diets do not usually work. Traditional diets work against your body and your body will win no matter how hard you try. Traditional diets are nothing but a controlled form of starvation to a lesser degree. Starvation to any degree is ruining your metabolism and muscle. Every pound of muscle weight consumes 50 calories per day so when your body enters survival mode during a starvation period it gets rid of the weight consuming the most energy in an attempt to keep you alive longer. In addition to that, when your body enters survival mode it automatically lowers your metabolism to maintain homeostasis(balance). Even if you begin to lose weight initially you will put it all back on once your body adjusts to your "diet" and you will not continue to lose weight this way unless you starve yourself more and more. This pattern will continue until your metabolism is so slow that you can not lose weight no matter how hard you try and people begin to get frustrated and quit their "diets" altogether. What can you do
If traditional dieting doesn't work and if these popular weight loss gimmicks don't have any long term results then what can be done? Well I've looked into these questions a lot recently. I'm a college student with a sport psychology major and a biology minor who likes to stay in shape and wanted to research for himself what was true and what wasn't. While I am learning more and more everyday I wanted to start sharing what I have learned with people looking for answers like I was. The best way to lose weight is to add a loose schedule to your diet to give your eating habits some structure. This works if you know what to eat to keep you body in balance and to keep you lepton levels high so your body is primed for weight loss at all times. If you do not then there are some real programs out there that can teach you how. One of the best I have seen so far is strip that fat among very few others. I can safely say that I have experienced results for myself as I am now 6'1"-6'2", about 180lbs, and always active. With these programs, I did have to cut carbs once in a while and fat as well but not all the time. There are low GI carbs and high GI carbs which are both good at different times and fat sources can be restricted depending on which one you are eating at the time. However a good diet would not have you restrict any healthy nutrient source completely or require you to starve yourself. I hope I have answered any questions that you might have had.
