I grew up in Detroit, Michigan and as far back as I can remember always wanted to become an entrepreneur. I jumped through the hoops; finished high school and went on to college to get my degree.

Upon graduation, I found myself in the same boat as everyone else. I continued to work in restaurants as a server, because the pay cut to start in the "real world" of business was not very appealing to me. At the same time, growing old while taking food orders was not somewhere I wanted to end up either.

My first step was to get out of the restaurant industry and into an office setting, so I became a mortgage broker.

For 3 years, I was in the mortgage industry writing loans for banks such as National City, Charter One, and First Horizon. I became successful and was making about $60-$75k per year. I had a descent benefits package that included health and dental insurance along with paid sick and vacation time. The hours were long and I was making someone else rich.

AND THEN ONE DAY..........

I was recruited to a new start-up mortgage brokerage firm that promised me the world and included hefty incentives and nice sized bonuses.

Unfortunately, the mortgage industry was taking a very big hit at the time and many of the banks were restricting their guidelines due to defaulted loans. At the same time, the housing market was
collapsing and many people found that their mortgages on their homes were more than the appraised value of the home itself. I found myself in a horrible predicament......

The Owner of my new mortgage company became nervous
and began researching affiliate programs on Google to see if there was another way to bring in some cash-flow. He found a program and asked me to take a look at it.

First......a little history on my new boss. He was previously the youngest Vice President at Ameriprise (financial planning sector of American
Express). He had also served as Vice President at a number of other banks (National City, being the most popular). I personally saw a tax return of his stating that he had earned $750,000 in one year. He was ready to leave Corporate America and I was ready to do whatever he said in order to gain the wealth I had caught a glimpse of on his tax return! =)

After 6 of the toughest months in the mortgage industry since the early 80's occurred, my mentor decided to cut his losses and fold shop. He laid off all 10 of his employees, with the exception
of me. He wanted to see if I could make this affiliate program thing work. I had never done any internet marketing before, had never heard of affiliate marketing, network marketing, direct sales, or MLM. Although I had always wanted to become an entrepreneur, I really was in no position to become one at that moment.

With all of the headlines in the news about CountryWide and every other mortgage company laying off tons of people, I thought my chances of finding another mortgage job were scarce, if not
impossible. So, I did what any desperate person would do...I promised to succeed. I had a quench for knowledge and I didn't want to end up jobless! I took him up on his offer...

We partnered up; he provided the advertising money and it was my task to learn how to market on the internet (which I had no experience in), turn a profit, and begin bringing in cash flow.

What I got in return was a weekly salary of $400 (a slap in the face) and 30% of the profits.

I know I said it was a slap in the face, but I was smart enough to know right from the beginning that I was getting the benefit of being paid to learn an invaluable skill. I was learning to market on the internet and I was learning to build my own business (all with someone else's money).

I dove in and spent 12-15 hours per day learning internet marketing. My first task was to tackle Google AdWords. I set up a couple huge campaigns with tons of ad groups in each of them. I had to show him QUICK results and that this worked FAST
or else I would have been out of a J-O-B.

I made us $18,000 in commissions the first month and all was good.

My partner was used to making BIG bucks and he simultaneously had his foot in many different doors with various opportunities that looked very promising. So, although I was doing every single task for the business, it just wasn't quite the return he was used to making or looking for. So, I bought him out and here I am; Successful Entrepreneur and Master Internet Marketer.
