What are they for?
Players use card covers to secure their cards during play.When not actively looking at their hand cards, players must place them face down on the table in front of their chips. Positioning a card cover over your cards protects them from being accidentally exposed, fouled or folded.
Some casinos will pronounce your poker hand dead if it's not "protected" and someone else's discards hit your cards.
Card covers or guards are an invaluable tool in the defense of over reactive dealers or opponents accidentally exposing, folding or mucking live down cards.
