Cardinal Tetra
Cardinal tetras are named for their startling red colour that is similar to a cardinals robes. This red is offset by bright blue on the top surfaces.
The cardinal tetras is often confused with the neon tetra but they are two distinct fish. The cardinal has more red on it's bottom half however. The two fish species can be kept together so there is no reason why they cannot be mixed in the aquarium.
Feed them on a general community or tetra flake mix. They will also appreciate frozen bloodworms from time to time.
These fish will generally cost only a few dollars and are often offered at a discount for five or ten. Having a number of cardinal tetras is a good choice as they are happier as part of a group.
