The Cardinal in the Garden

I've always felt seeing a cardinal bird in my yard was a sign of good luck. That bright red bird feeding is a beautiful sight that can bring a smile to my lips on even the worst day. It's almost like a message saying "Things are getting brighter".

I fill my Cardinal Bird Feeders with a birdseed mix that is a favorite to them just to make sure they know they are always welcome. There are several of them placed strategically in my backyard so I will be sure to see them when they pop in for a snack.

I've also come to keep a banner or flag in my garden, usually depicting cardinals of the season - and you will find a few great choices of Cardinal Bird Garden Flags to bring a cardinal to your garden that you can be sure you won't miss.

This page is dedicated to one of my favorite backyard visitors and how they can brighten up your garden year round. The many ideas here will surely give you an opportunity to show your 'cardinal love' for these exquisite feathered friends.

The RedBird - Northern Cardinal

The Cardinal Bird is a familiar backyard favorite can be seen from Canada in the North, throughout the United States, down into Mexico and even on the island of Hawaii. There aren't many places you won't have luck seeing the bright red plumage, from woodland to swampland, meadows and gardens.

The male cardinals are the ones we know for the bright red showing of color, while the female cardinals are more of a grayish-brown with red tints here and there. They mostly feed on seeds, but can also eat insects and fruits.

Brome 1055 Squirrel Buster Mini

The Brome Squirrel Buster wild bird feeder is the #1 Best Selling feeder on Amazon (as of September 2011). It features openings in the bottom of the metal mesh shroud which are aligned with the seed tray and allow birds easy access to the seed. When a squirrel attempts to raid the feeder, the animals body weight pushes the shroud down, removing access to the seed tray.

There are perches outside the seed portals for birds that prefer to sit, and the mesh design of the metal shroud allows birds that like to cling a large area in which to do so.

Brome's Patented Seed Tube Ventilation System in the Squirrel Buster Mini permits humidity and hot air to escape through vents at the top of the feeder to help keep seed dry and flowing properly.

To see how the Brome 1055 Squirrel Buster Mini in action I've included a short video directly below this.

The cardinal has become our favorite as it reminds us of my husbands presence around us (he passed away two years ago). It has a special meaning for all of us, and it's a beautiful bird.
