One warm morning in may, I was on my way to the supermarket. I hated doing the shopping, but my mum told me that I would not get that remote control car that I wanted so much if I didn't do it. I was in a really bad mood.
On my way back, coincidentally, I glanced at the inside of a toyshop that I was walking by. There was a magician, surrounded by kids. He must have been in the middle of a trick, because he magically waved his wand and as he opened his hand with a mysterious motion, I could feel the children's amazement right through the glass window. I walked closer to the door and watched the magician for what must have been have an hour. When I came home, my mother immedeatly started ranting at me, because I was so late. I didn't really hear her though. I was still thinking of the magician. I wondered how he made that card disappear... how he performed all of these tricks.. And suddenly, I had made a decision.
I had decided to become a magician!

Back then it was rather hard to get good information on how to perfom those miracles that my eyes had seen in the toystore. Luckily I ran into the magician on another date and could convince him to show me a trick or two. After that I had to develop my own tricks though, which was rather hard and very time consuming.

Card Levitation

How to make a picked card levitate

So the trick goes as follows. You have a standard card deck. A participant chooses one card, takes a look at it and puts it back into the deck. Now you shuffle the deck a few times. Using 'static electricity' (not really of course ;-) ) you then make their card magically rise up from the deck.

Equipment needed:
One standard card deck

In my opinion this is a really great effect and will amaze your friends. It is not difficult to do at all, although I must tell you, that it will take practise to get the angles perfectly right. But the man in the video (great video, great guy btw!) says that it will only take you about 10 minutes of practise in front of a mirror.

Summed up, this should definitely be part of your arsenal of cards tricks as an uprising magician.

Great Cards Tricks: A 'complicated' one

"They'll be amaaazed."

So in this tutorial the presenter (great tattoos btw!) shows you another easy card trick. It looks rather complicated, but go through the trick slowly and you will get the hang of it. Basically what happens is that you let the person pick a card from your deck. You then let them put it back into the deck, use a certain pattern of putting cards from the bottom to the top and onto another pile (follow the video for the exact pattern) and in between you show the participater cards to let him check if they are his card or not.
This process makes him believe really strongly that you blew it, but in the end you will be able to magically show him his card.

Equipment needed:
A deck of cards.

So this trick will take a few minutes to learn too, not because it's hard to perform, but rather because the order of what you do when is a bit more complicated. It's still worth it, this easy card trick will stun the people watching you. Or, like the performer in the video says: "They'll be amaaazed."

Cards tricks - Just throw 'em away

Very strong optical effect!

Again an easy card trick that will be of great use to you. A person from the audience picks a card, puts it back into the deck. You put one ace on top of the card deck and one at the bottom. Then you kind of throw the deck away, so that only the two aces remain between your fingers... and the card that the participant picked ;-)

Equipment needed:
A standard card deck.

You should learn this trick. Seriously. Even if it is only for the fun of throwing a card deck. But honestly, this optical effect is really great, go learn it!
