Welcome to Films Shot in the Caribbean!

You won't find the plenitude of Hollywood, Bollywood nor Nollywood but you will find a rich landscape and a warm people that provide a great setting and contribution to the film industry. Welcome to films about the Caribbean and its Diaspora especially those shot in the Caribbean.

We all understand that there are many movies made across the world but only a few make it to the big screen because that is what the "masses" want.
My connection with Caribbean film comes by way of Distribution. My job is to present stories about the romantic and the raw side of paradise so that the viewer can be more vested in the truth about the tropics. Some of these stories are hard to find because of the lack of deep pockets for marketing promotions as well as not being desirable for personal escapism i.e. some of these films don't make us forget about our problems. Support independent filmmakers who have a burning story to tell and the network that brings the film to you, not by burning your own disc (bootlegging can be very tempting) but by viewing and purchasing media listed below.
Discuss these stories with others (families, friends and newsgroups) and
develop a better understanding of the rich stories from the tropics.

Caution: If after discussing you are further weighed down with heavy issues like Cultural Imperialism, Globalisation of Drugs, Crime and Corruption and Environmentalism, it is not a bad idea to call on Providence.

I do encourage you to check out the films through your local library, video stores
and online services such as Netflix in the US and Amazon video service in the UK.
If you can't find movies in these outlets and you would like to use my assistance, please contact Lignum Vitae Books ( lignuml@yahoo.com)
where searching is our specialty. Also, send us some feedback.
Enjoy!

Hard to Find Caribbean Movies

Top Shottas

The film is based on the true story of two young men, Wayne (played by Spragga Benz) and and Bigs (played by Marley) who grew up as children and later connected as drug partners to become don of dons. Rated R. Graphic violence and Jamaican vernacular. If you can get past the rating, this is a very sobering story done with some artistic sophistication.
Order: lattyl.googlepages.com DVD $32.99 w/ S/H

The Power of Community: How Cuba Survived Peak Oil

53 minutes. $35 Contact: lignuml@yahoo.com

While the United States continues to consume fossil fuels as if they grew on trees, Cuba has grappled with the reality that we will all face in the not-so-distant future. This film documents how Cuba adjusted to the challenges of feeding its population in a low-energy society. It's a resource that would be especially useful in global studies, biology, earth sciences, or health classes.

A good "show" or "flick" brings back good memories of going to the house with the one TV in the community or Video days of watching Rambo after school. My favorite is the Harder They Come with its hortical soundtrack. This movie has had widespread impact as it shows the striving man's plight. Irie!
