Caribbean Vacations - What's your style?

Have you ever noticed that people have completely ideas about Caribbean vacations? Is your idea of the perfect vacation sailing in the islands, dropping anchor in secluded coves? Or would you rather be exploring the ruins of ancient Mayan cities, lost in the jungle? Or perhaps you'd rather be relaxing poolside at a luxurious resort, sipping a frozen concoction? You can find all of these in the Caribbean!

British Virgin Island: The Sailing Vacation

Charter a yacht in the British Virgin Islands

For some people, the Caribbean means sailing, snorkeling, scuba diving and other water sports. The goal is all about being out on the water.

If you asked these folks to define "paradise" they would answer, "British Virgin Islands". This area is often referred to as the Sailing Capital of the World. A yacht charter is the perfect BVI sailing vacation -- you can sail from island to island, going barefoot from the moment you step aboard. And when you feel like a swim or a snorkel, just jumping off the back of the boat. Ahhh... what a life! :-)

The Caribbean Adventure

Belize vacation is the perfect answer

Then, there are those who take a more adventurous approach to Caribbean travel. Would you love to spy monkeys, alligators, and rain forest wildlife? How about exploring the remains of a long-lost civilization, investigating ancient archaeological ruins? There's nothing quite as exciting as climbing pyramids deep in the jungle!

For this style, a Belize vacation is the perfect answer. Those with an interest in archaeology can explore the ancient Mayan cities of Altun Ha, Lamanai, or Caracol. In Western Belize, you can visit Xunantunich, which means Stone Woman. Apparently, the stone woman is the ghost of a real woman who inhabits this site: She appears in front of El Castillo, then she ascends the stairs. Suddenly, like a typically evasive women, she disappears into the stone wall.

Animal lovers also have an affinity for Belize. If you feel like spending some time monkeying around, visit the Community Baboon Sanctuary, which is home to over 2,000 howler monkeys (known as baboons here). And Belize is not just for land activities. It boasts the largest barrier reef in the Caribbean, and the world famous "Blue Hole" dive site. Snorkelers and scuba divers love it!

The Luxury Resort

Relax by day, then party the night away

For others, a Caribbean vacation implies hours of toasting on a sandy beach or relaxing by a gorgeous pool, sipping tropical drinks. For these folks, the adventurous aspect of the trip takes place in the evening at the casino. Will they win back enough money to pay for the trip, or will they lose their shirt (so to speak!)?

If this is your ideal vacation, then perhaps Puerto Rico is for you. It's got beaches, resorts, and plenty of nightlife to keep you dancing the night away!

I'd love to go to Belize, and Puerto Rico, and yes, go sailing, too! Did I just mention everything on here? Oh well, you can blame me if I'd want all 3.

Relaxing in the poolside is my ideal Caribbean vacation. But I might as well try sailing and exploring the ruins.
