Who is Carina Franco?

I am originally from Mexico City, The biggest city in the world. Even though the problems that a huge metropolis holds; Mexico is one of the cities with most character in the whole world. History shows everywhere in the city, which much of the modern area laid out on top of one or more recantations.

The array of restaurants and culinary options (one of the best cuisines in the world) is staggering, the night live is amazing, from romantic places, "peñas" (bars with live Latin American music), pubs, Mariachis, "cantinas" (where you can have a drink, eat and play domino).

And the best of all, a warm, friendly, family oriented culture.

After a happy life in Mexico City close to my parents, brothers, and the rest of the family; I got the opportunity to move to Vancouver, B.C. Canada. In compare to Mexico City, Vancouver is a nice relaxing place to live in (I am sure many of you won't see Vancouver as a quiet city though hahaha).

Bordered by the Coast Mountain Range and the Pacific Ocean, Vancouver is recognized as one of the world's most livable cities. It is the place where the mountains meet the sea. It doesn't matter where you are you get an incredible view.

Vancouver is a cosmopolitan metropolis, mix of culture, culinary delights and fresh air. If you want to meet and interact with people from all over the world, this is the place to be.

When I first came to Vancouver, I decided that I could do anything I wanted in life, that if I chose to I didn't even have to work in the same field I was working in Mexico.; basically I decided that I could start a brand new life without attachments and just do whatever I really love.

Vancouver has been a crib of opportunities that I would not have had in Mexico. I got to know about people that had made such an impact on me, like Oprah Winfrey, Anthony Robbins, T. Harv Eker, and numerous self millionaires entrepreneurs and incredible people from all over the world.

Having the opportunity to be part of 2 cultures (Mexican and Canadian) and speak 2 languages has changed my mindset about what it is possible, and about what I can actually do.

I met Don in the most unexpected way.

I was travelling in Canada for a few months, on my 3rd month, while I was in Vancouver, I decided to go to see what type of courses one school that sent me advertising had to offer. Honestly I didn't have to go, because I knew I was not going to attend the school anyways. But it was an excuse of my destiny, I guess.

That day I had to take the sea bus (a small ferry that goes from North Vancouver to Vancouver Downtown) to go to that school. I was sitting there and suddenly a couple of legs sat next to me. It was this gentleman guy that was helping a couple of older ladies with their bags. He was listening to his walkman, but he took it off just in case I wanted to talk to him. Sure enough that gave me the confidence to approach him and ask him for directions to find the school.

He said; "oh, you have to take the sky train, by the way so do I, let's walk together." Well at the end he asked for my phone number and invited me to join him and his friends the next day for drinks.

The next day, he called me and asked me out for dinner before seeing his friends. Well, after a couple of weeks of going out we started dating.

I ended being in Vancouver for almost 6 months. One week after my arrival in Mexico I got a great and exciting job. I worked for 3 years and then I moved back to Vancouver after marrying this man.

After a few years of being married we decided that it was time to have a baby, and like a gift from heaven Natasha came to our lives. She has become one of my biggest inspirations in life.

This has been a dream come true for me, to go to a far away continent, although similar to America: Europe with the person I love, Don.

Traveling not only is exciting but is it also an excellent way to open your mind and see beyond your limits. You learn a lot about other people but amazingly you learn even more about yourself.

You get to listen to different music, taste different and sometimes exotic foods, you get to see how others see life.

Don and I had the opportunity to compete in The Dragon Boat race. It was an awesome experience. We got to train every Saturday Morning for 2 hours, paddling and paddling. As we would said and reach, reach, reach.

Dragon boating appeared in Vancouver as a demonstration sport at - Expo 86. Vancouverites liked it and interest started to grow.

Nothing would have sense to me without a family. To be mom has been one of the biggest satisfactions in my life.

When I feel blue all I have to do is look at my little girl and everything gets clearer and my hope comes back. It is so nice to hug her and kiss her.

It is amazing the way your children can change your life. Now you feel you have to be the best you can be to give them the life you want them to have. Now it is not you anymore, now, you have in your hands another life that depends on you.

The experience of being a mom has been overwhelming and exciting at the same time. It has been an excellent excuse to become better and happier.

I've always been an entrepreneur at heart. While doing my thesis for my psychology degree I started a marketing research company with one of my friends from school making one of our dreams come true, have our own business. Although we were doing well, major corporations started to take over the market making it harder to compete. As a result, a few years later we shut the company down.

Well that was my explanation then, but the truth is that even though the idea of running my own business was exciting, the concept of the company wasn't my true passion.

In order to find myself, I decided to take a trip for a few months to Canada, where by the way, I met Don, my husband, my best friend, my partner in life.

I went back to Mexico City and spent a few years in sales for a local marketing and business magazine. I was lucky to have the best of two worlds: the benefit of a corporation and the feeling of running my own business. That was my dream job. I felt that I was making a difference in my clients business and I was truly in love with the magazine and my job. The money was pretty good too.

I got married and moved to Vancouver. I continued what I loved doing in Mexico. I started working as the Advertising and Promotions Manager for a small local, Newspaper, (this was as a volunteer while I was waiting to complete my immigration status).

This job was so amazing; I was able to apply a lot of my knowledge learnt in Mexico while working for the magazine. One of my first biggest challenges was the small amount of circulation and the lack of budget available for the newspaper. Regardless all those challenges, once again, I was living my dream, working in a place that, even though it wasn't mine, it felt like it. I was making a difference and I was working with and for the community.

Finally my papers arrived and I was able to work in Canada, yeah! Trying to follow the same path, I started a position in an advertising company doing what they called "inside sales", but it was really telemarketing. I hated it! It wasn't so much the cold calling, which I admit I didn't enjoy much, it was more the pushing sale system they had. I am a strong believer in the right of the consumer or client to be well educated before investing in something.

Well "No hay mal que por bien no venga" (this is what we say in Mexico) and it could translate like this: "there is not bad that for good don't come", meaning it was a good experience and I learnt a few important things about sales:

1. Once you start practicing, cold calling becomes easier.

2. People don't hang up on you; they hang up on the abrupt selling process. (They didn't request the information; you interfered in their activities trying to sell something).

3. The money is in the follow up and not in the onetime shot that telemarketing uses.

But the most important thing I learnt was that I really enjoy helping people and the feeling of what I am doing is making a difference in their business or lives. That was what I loved about my previous professional experiences.

Note: I was never able to avoid giving the clients the information they needed to make their decision, but according to the company procedures, that was a waste of time, I should have sold on the spot and that was it. I must say a lot of people actually called me back for more information and a good amount of them actually bought from me.

Now, the time to have a baby arrived, so Don and I decided that it would be a good for me to join the hospitality industry with the idea of having flexibility and spend more time with the baby and get also maternity leave benefits. However, what started as a good plan became a nightmare, I ended up working mostly evenings and weekends and never saw Don.

For the first time, I was working just for money but most importantly, I wasn't following my passion, and that feeling was killing me. It was like if I had forgotten my real purpose.

Don on his end had been working as a Sales and Training Manager for over 10 years. We realized that financially we had no hope to create wealth and we don't have enough time to see each other. My husband and I always have been conscious of a very important principle; "not only do we deserve to be wealthy, but it is also possible to achieve it."

That is when I said to myself, there should be a better way. A few days later, something amazing happened. After work, about 2 am, I saw an infomercial where Robert Kiyosaki was giving a talk about the financial principles that he lives by and gave birth to in his famous book Rich Dad Poor Dad.

That commercial made me remember that trading my time for money in a job, especially if I don't love it, will never allow me to be prosperous and happy. It was then that I knew what to do. I decided to start my own online business...

At the beginning, I started spending hundreds of dollars in e-books and e-courses; I joined some affiliations and I started to get bombarded with information about the "Best Next Thing" to make money and promote my business. I was putting advertising here and there but I was lacking of the most important thing a PLAN.

Things were not working out as I wanted; I really wanted to quit my job to follow my dream, start my own online business, but I wasn't doing too well in that department either. I knew I needed to stop and reevaluate my goals, values and the way I was doing things. I looked at what was good with my career at that time and then I started to refocus.

After a few years of struggling, I finally came back to my true path. I discovered how powerful the internet was and a way to fulfill my passion at the same time. "Help others to live their life to its full potential and achieve my wildest dreams."

I changed my mindset. First of all, I stopped seeing my job as a curse and I understood that it was a vehicle to pursue my new adventure. Secondly, I modified my business procedures. I discontinue the habit of surfing on the net and stop wasting my time in NO MONEY MAKING ACTIVITIES.

I came across to an incredible business solution This system was going to allow me to realize my vision. It was going to be a way to create wealth for myself and make a difference in others people's life and the freedom to do what I love.

Once again, I would be able to run my own business with the support of an inconceivable infrastructure behind me. The best of two worlds, I thought.
