Believe it or not its actually relatively simple to organise insurance cover for periods between 1-28 days for almost any reason (this certainly did not use to be the case!) There are still some sticky areas however,particularly with cars that have an insurance group rating of 18-20, in most cases drivers have to be aged 25 or over, additionly the excess charged for young drivers insurance up to 24 can be up to £750 for high performance cars and probably averages around the £500 mark. Although the excess may seem high the actual premiums themselves are quite cheap, allowing you to get fully comprehensive 1 day car insurance for a temporary additional vehicle, a newly purchased vehicle from an auction or car supermarket, a courtesy car, an unaccompanied test-drive of a car(some garages will insist on you taking insurance for an extended test drive particularly on prestige models) or even for track day driving or other racing events that require insurance. track day car insurance
