One of our children had more allergies than I ever imagined possible, and has to take regular shots to keep himself healthy. He loves to brew some coffee in his keurig b31 mini brewer to get his day going and at least he is not allergic to coffee!

Thank you for leaving that nice comment on my page on linkreferral. This is a very excellent lens with a very important topic. My sister has eczema and she is allergic to pecans and fish. She has had it since she was about since she was about 7, that's when we noticed it, because her face was swollen very badly.

Great lens, 5 stars! A very important subject that most don't have to think about. My allergies are mild. I am food sensitive and avoid certain things like acidic fruits and vegetables. Thanks for this very informative information.

Thank you for adding this lens to The Cooks Cafe we need to raise awareness about food allergies.
  • KimGiancaterino Feb 21, 2009 @ 9:10 pm | delete
I'm glad you've addressed this important issue. We've got friends who are allergic to peanuts and alcohol, so we try to be sensitive and ask guests about food allergies before inviting them over for dinner. Thanks for adding this to Culinary Favorites From A to Z. Welcome!

Coming from California and "foodie haven" I 'm surprised there is not a greater concern by restaurateurs to food allergies other than use of MSG. Having been with friends who do have allergies and compromised immune systems, who always request information on how food is prepped or that certain foods not be prepared with their orders, I do know how important this is. Thank you for your consideration of others.

I have been fortunate in my life that I have absolutely no food allergies to speak of. I do have a good friend of mine with allergies to certain foods and I really feel for him when he can't eat this and can 't eat that. It's gotta suck.
  • The_Homeopath Oct 26, 2008 @ 9:36 pm | delete
It's nice to see professionals acknowledging allergies. My husband and I rarely eat out anymore due to them, and we make a point of always eating a full meal BEFORE attending any "event" where food is served because it's just too dangerous to take our chances with standard catering fare.

Great topic. I'm not allergic myself, but it IS a very important topic obviously. LIfe becomes so complicated when one has a food allergy.

As a child I had no allergies until I reached the age of 11 years. I have lots of different reactions as far as allergies go. Asthma, was the first problem, then at the age of 16 I started to react to raw foods. I often thought that I had a reaction from some pesticide on the fruit I enjoyed so much. Today at the age of 51, I have not been able to eat any raw fruits or vegtables since the age of 16. I can eat anything that is Cooked or Processed.
To make a long story short, I believe that at the age of 11, our school system made every student chew Floride tablets in a program to enhance proper tooth care and cavity prevention. We were instructed to chew 6 tablets, spit them out and rinse.
Now that I look back over the years, I believe that is what started my health problems.
I'm sure some of you may remember those Government programs? Thanks for the lens, JO

I became allergic to 365 things in my daily world sometime after the birth of my third baby. I wouldn't say any of them were life threatening but in combination over the years I became so run down that I nearly died on 3 occasions. I have been able to build up my health by strict avoidance and a diet of nutrient dense foods.

Good, informative lens. My son is allergic to all kinds of things. Fortunately, he has outgrown the worst of it.

As a nutrition and fitness professional (who also happens to be gluten and lactose intolerant) I would love to have more dietary sensitive businesses such as yours in my part of the country. 5 stars, a favorite, and my first lens roll.

This is a really helpful site for those in the area with allergies. I know how hard it can be to host dinner parties and this is a great resource for people.

    Take care

Once or twice I've had some issues when eating raw oysters on the half shell -- both times in the South -- once in Atlanta, and the other time in Jacksonville. Two other times I got more than a little sick from what we think was either e-coli or salmonella from chicken and salad. BTW, I would love to see some food specialities/recipes of yours!
  • Margo_Arrowsmith Oct 3, 2008 @ 6:03 am | delete
I don't have the big allergies, the ones that make me break out. What I have are the sensitivities to wheat and other things that just wear me down. Does the caterer cater to that also?
  • marsha32 Oct 1, 2008 @ 2:12 pm | delete
I have a severe allergy to cornmeal and it doesn't matter how far down the ingredient list it is.
