1Life is an annual fundraiser hosted by Summit Student Ministries of Summit Christian Church in Sparks, NV. Our middle and high school students raise money for the Kiamaiko slum in Nairobi, Kenya. In the past five years, this amazing group of teenagers have raised over $100,000. The students meet in Core Groups every Wednesday during the school year in homes all over the Reno/Sparks area.

Annual Mission Trip to Kiamaiko
Every year after Summit Student Ministries' (SSM) 1Life efforts, a group of students get to go to Kiamaiko personally. They meet the people whose lives have changed due to their efforts as well as spread the word of God. It's a truly incredible experience. Here is the 2011 mission team. They're standing in front of the school we have built. (Which now has over 500 students who otherwise wouldn't receive an education!) 1Life Facts
- Kiamaiko consists of 70,000 people living in shanties in a 1.9 square mile slum.
- It is estimated that 40% of those living in Kiamaiko are HIV / AIDS positive.
- Monies fund AIDS workers, social workers, and community health workers in Kiamaiko.
- Monies go toward micro-finance loans that enable people to start small businesses, which give them a chance to get out of the slum.
- Monies fund a post-test club for those HIV positive, serving as a support group.
- SSM has been working in Kiamaiko in the Mathare Valley of Nairobi, Kenya for 6 years now, raising over $100,000 as of 2011.

How Can I Help?
Our middle and high school students have raised over $100,000 in the past five years, and must raise $20,000 each year to continue to support Kiamaiko with our 1Life efforts. Please help us meet our goal this year!
Live too far but still want to help? Maybe you just aren't that in to garage sales with cookies and bounce houses. In that case, checks or cash sent to Summit Christian Church will be warmly welcomed.

North Valleys Core Groups
In addition to each student raising money for 1Life, each Core Group does their "own thing" to contribute. The North Valleys Core Groups include SSM students that live in in the North Valleys (Cold Springs, Stead, Lemon Valley, Golden Valley, etc.). The boys group along with the middle and high school girls groups will be hosting this big fundraiser as our contribution to 1Life. Here is a picture of one of our past sales.
What about helping people in THIS country?
We've got that covered
During our 1Life fundraiser there is one question that we hear nonstop. People always ask, "Well what about people in this country? They're suffering too."During one of our Core Group's bake sale at Walmart, a woman asked the students this exact question and walked off disgusted. As she was walking away, one of the student leaders responded with, "Actually, these students do quite a lot for our community. They serve at the Reno Sparks Gospel Mission (homeless shelter) every month." She then continued to list all the other things SSM does to help our community.
The woman turned around with a humbled expression and said, "I guess I'm going to have to give you money then."
SSM serves others in many ways, serving at the Gospel Mission, cleaning up trash in Summit's 30580 project and having each Core group do their own service project during the Christmas season is just listing a few.
We Have Fun For Jesus
Every first Wednesday of the month, SSM Core Groups gather at the church for "First Wednesday" to have a blast and fellowship with the other students. Each month is something different, and many of them go towards 1Life. We raise money in the form of ice skating, holding dodgeball tournaments, worshiping, having "no talent talent shows", dropping things from forklifts, and much much more. We love to have a blast while loving God, loving people, serving others, and reaching others.
