María Carolina Josefina Pacanins y Niño: Carolina Herrera

Carolina Herrera (born January 8, 1939 as María Carolina Josefina Pacanins y Niño in Caracas, Venezuela) is a fashion designer and entrepreneur who founded her eponymous company in 1980 with great success. Based in New York City since 1981, Herrera managed to qualify, throughout the 1970s and 1980s as one of the best dressed women in the world. Her empire grew so rapidly and steadily since its creation that she went on to dress Jacqueline Kennedy Onassis for the last twelve years of her life.

Carlina Herrera: One of the World's Most Elegant Women

I don't know about you, but I appreciate good taste and elegance! Carolina Herrera combines a warm personality and Artistic designer talent with refined elegance and taste. It is not without a reason that her and Jackie Kennedy Onassis were close. If you are as famous as Jackie was, and as much in the public, you want only some of the best designers to make clothes for you, understandably. There is something aristocratic and noble about Carolina Herrera, that is completely natural, genuine and everlasting, like the fashion items she designs.

One can literally sense through her products the strong desire to not wanting to settle for mediocrity in life, not wanting to take the first one, but the best one! She is a beautiful, passionate, yet stylish woman with a generous heart who definitely impacted the World of Fashion with her legacy. One can only wish that all women would learn her tasteful, understated elegance not only in the dresses they wear, but also in every aspect of their life. She is a true role model and a much valued friend to those who were fortunate enough to meet her. [This photo shows her in New York in 2007, with an Andy Warhol picture].

Carolina Herrera's Classical Style

Carolina Herrera's Business Emporium

After years on the US list of best-dressed women, Herrera created her first ready-to-wear collection in 1981. A New York based designer, she produced a collection of layered clothes which used a variety of fabrics in different length. She holds her fashion shows in Manhattan's Plaza Hotel.

She launched her fur collection in 1984 and her CH Collection (a more affordable line) in 1986. Her bridal line was launched in 1987, after she designed Caroline Kennedy's wedding gown. Her perfume lines followed in 1988.

There are currently 2 Carolina Herrera flagship boutiques in the world. The New York flagship is located on Madison Avenue and the Los Angeles, California flagship on Melrose Place.

In 2003, Carolina Herrera launched a lifestyle brand called CH Carolina Herrera. In that year, the company opened four stores at The Galleria in Houston, Texas, Americana Manhasset, in Manhasset, New York, The Forum Shops at Caesars in Las Vegas, Nevada, and The Village of Merrick Park in Coral Gables, Florida. In 2006, the retailer opened a boutique in South Coast Plaza in Costa Mesa, California, and in NorthPark Center in Dallas, Texas.

The company is aggressively expanding this lifestyle brand, while avoiding major luxury retail corridors such as Madison Avenue, Michigan Avenue or Rodeo Drive and it anticipates to open more stores in 2007 in Austin and San Antonio in Texas; Orlando, Tampa and Palm Beach in Florida; San Diego; Phoenix, and eventually, Los Angeles. Carolina Herrera's Private Life

She was born in Venezuela in 1939. Carolina traveled in Europe excessively in her childhood, and attended her first couture show at Balenciaga when she was 13, along with her fashionable grandmother.

Carolina Herrera has four daughters from two marriages. She has been married to Venezuelan Reinaldo Herrera Guevara, son of fashion icon María Teresa (Mimí) Guevara Pietrantoni de Herrera Uslar, with whom she had two daughters. Prior to this marriage, she was married to Guillermo Behrens Tello. Both marriages were blessed with two daughters, each.

Carolina Herrera is a Goodwill Ambassador and Facilitator for the Intergovernmental Institution for the use of Micro-algae Spirulina Against Malnutrition, IIMSAM, and its affirmative action programme, 'The Right to Food Campaign Initiative Against Malnutrition'. IIMSAM works to promote the use of micro-algae Spirulina (Spirulina Platensis) to counter malnutrition and its severe negative impacts especially in the developing and Least Developed Countries (LDC). Carolina once said, "If my work at the IIMSAM were to save the life of even one child from the forty thousand children that die of malnutrition and related diseases each day, I would consider it the greatest work of my life."
