Carrie Bradshaw ...... Single ..... and Fabulous?
Okay, I know there are people who LOVE Sex and the City and the series heroine, Carrie Bradshaw. I, however, am NOT one of them. Granted, my fashion sense is stunted due to having come of age in the Polyester 70's, but is New York City really overrun with veiny handed, skinny "girls" wearing nurse outfits and stilletos? [Shudder ....]
Let me just say I have absolutely nothing against Sarah Jessica Parker, who seems like a perfectly wonderful person (actor, wife, mother, clothing and perfume designer, spokesperson, etc.) I am sure she is a fine actress (although in most of her roles she is playing Carrie Bradshaw in one form or another .... more about that later).
Three reasons to dislike Carrie Bradshaw
Your reasons may vary, but here are my Top Three:1. How many "almost 40 year old" women do YOU know that are constantly, continually called a "girl"? As in, "What's a girl to do? Rent or shoes? Definitely the SHOES!" or "This GIRL loves New York City" or "Big, go to Paris and bring our GIRL home!" Gack.
2. The accessories - Must Carrie attach those HUGE flowers to any garment large enough to hold them? Massive white flowers on a simple elegant dress, corpulent calla lilies draped over a lime green plaid frock (with pink fishnets and a red knit beret), etc.
3. The computer phobia. C'mon, how many people don't BACK UP their hard-drives? Okay, I'm totally on board with the whole "using your oven as shoe storage", but it's the 21st century. Get a clue.

Carrie Preston (née Bradshaw) is the fictional narrator and lead character of the HBO sitcom/drama Sex and the City, played by actress Sarah Jessica Parker. Carrie and SATC on HBO
- Carrie Bradshaw's bio on HBO
- HBO, bless 'em, has a glowing biography of our gal Carrie on their website, with such comments that "'single and fabulous Carrie' expresses her eclectic, whimsical self and that of her city through a masterful and sometimes outrageous mix of these styles."
- Carrie's Apartment - Interiors
- "We know that Carrie would have some deadline or date to meet," he continues." She doesn't have the time to neatly arrange her products or stack her shoes in the closet. She's more of a 'Leave 'em where they fall' kind of woman. It's what we like to call organized chaos."

Carrie Bradshaw - "Real Girl"
I couldn't help but wonder .....
- You're Not in Kansas Anymore
- A great July 2, 2007 blog post entitled "I Hate Carrie Bradshaw": "The reason I can't stand Carrie Bradshaw is because she's needy. She's whiny. She's clingy. Basically, she's the crazy girl who is always scaring guys away, not understanding why they don't want to be her boyfriend. And love her. And marry her. And be with her forever and ever because she's so witty and insightful and ohmigod we're in love and why are you bothering to date anyone else because this is it?!" Write it, sister!
- Carrie Bradshaw Deconstructed
- Oohh, scathing .....
- On the Insufferable Carrie Bradshaw
- Let me say this up front: I do not dislike Sarah Jessica Parker, the actress stuck with the unenviable task of portraying Carrie. If anything, I like SJP, especially after her trenchant performance in "Flight of the Navigator." But her character is inescapably unrealistic and frustrating, and thus it vexes me that so many women embrace that character completely.
- Five drinks that bartenders just hate to make
- Great, "ever since the character Carrie Bradshaw on "Sex in the City" demanded perfection in her Cosmopolitan, people have had high standards in what was originally a fairly simple drink." Gee, thanks, Carrie!
Sex and the City (SATC)
Sex and the City is an American cable television series. The original run of the show was broadcast on HBO from 1998 until 2004, for a total of six seasons.
Set in New York City, the show focused on four women, three in their mid-thirties and one in her forties. The quirky series had multiple continuing story lines and tackled socially relevant issues such as sexually transmitted diseases, safe sex, and promiscuity. It specifically examined the lives of big-city professional women in the late 1990s/early 2000s and how changing roles and expectations for women affected the characters.

Quick, what do you think of Carrie Bradshaw?
Carrie Bradshaw in Miami Rhapsody
" ..... .and I wonder, is it really worth it?"
Sure, she's dressed in a t-shirt and sweater, but just switch that with a purple mesh raincoat and a plastic mini and bra top, with a porkpie hat on her head, substitute "New York" for "Miami" and it's the same whining about relationships and marriage.
I Couldn't Help but wonder .....
if anyone else feels the way I do!
Am I off-base here?
