This is my kind of princess...

My first exposure to Carrie Fisher was as Princess Leia Organa in the Star Wars movies.  And, I thought she was pretty awesome from just those movies.  But, over the years, following both her acting and her writing career -- my admiration for this lady has grown exponentially.  She is amazingly talented and wickedly funny.  Check out the information here to see what I'm talking about...

Three Reasons I Love Carrie Fisher:

She has a great sense of humor.

  • She makes great movies.

  • She writes great books.

A Brief Glance At Carrie Fisher

Carrie Frances Fisher (born October 21, 1956) is an American actress, screenwriter, and novelist. She is most famous for her portrayal of Princess Leia Organa in the original Star Wars trilogy, although her comedic novels have also won praise.

Fisher was born in Beverly Hills, CA, the daughter of singer Eddie Fisher and actress Debbie Reynolds. Her younger brother is Todd Fisher and her half-sisters are actresses Joely Fisher and Tricia Leigh Fisher. When Fisher was two, her parents divorced and her father married actress Elizabeth Taylor. The following year, her mother married shoe store chain owner Harry Karl. It was assumed from an early age that Fisher would go into the family business; she began appearing with her mother in Las Vegas at age 12. She attended Beverly Hills High School but left to join her mother on the road. She appeared as a debutante and singer in the hit Broadway revival "Irene" (1973) starring her mother.

Fisher was married to musician Paul Simon (1983-84), and was in a relationship with him for several years afterward. Subsequently, she had a relationship with CAA principal and agent Bryan Lourd. They had one child together, Billie Catherine Lourd (born July 17, 1992). The couple's relationship ended when Lourd left her for a man. She was tied for a time to Senator Christopher Dodd, and for a brief time was engaged to Dan Aykroyd.

In an interview on public radio in 2005, Fisher joked that she was afraid if she ever became senile she might begin to slip back into her Princess Leia character. Fisher has publicly discussed her problems with drugs, her battles with bipolar disorder, and overcoming an addiction to prescription medication.

When I saw Star Wars for the first time,I was seven years old. At that time she was my hero. I wanted to be her( Princess Leia). My brother and I had the entire collection of all the origional SW toys, I had all of the Princess Leia toys that were out at the time.Shoot the first Halloween after the movie came out, I dressed up like her, the white dress, the same hair style as she had in the movie, a black laser gun.I won an award, trying to be like my hero. I think Ms.Fisher is an amazing woman to have the career she has and to have gone through all she has endured and still she keeps coming back, I saw her one woman show on HBO. I loved it,she did such a good job, I never laughed, cried, and smiled all at the exact time, except for when I saw her one woman show. Ms.Fisher I want to thank you for being such a positive influence in my life. Thank You!!!

Carrie, I want to send my regrets after hearing of the loss of your father. We have met at your home a few years ago on Thanksgiving Day, I was a guest of Arnie's. You were a very gracious hostess, and I will always remember the 9 kisses you gave me as I left. Again, my heartfelt condolences for your loss.

If Carrie has any influence over George Lucas - Please have her put in a plug for Ep7 ... none of us are getting any younger and all the primary players are still alive. Iloved her as a young Girl/Woman and I think she would make a wonderful Leader/Wife/Mother to Han and their Son.

I saw Carrie on The View the other day and WOW! What a sweetheart! How funny is she?! I was absolutely delighted to hear about her show, her recent book, and tidbits of her past. Just to know that she is more than just another pretty face warms my heart.

Thank you Carrie Fisher for being so real and sharing parts of your life and your thoughts with us! I'm buying your book "Wishful Drinking," for both my sisters and all my friends for Christmas! If I could afford it I'd come to your show. All the best to you and yours!
