Carson City Mint Coins
U.S. silver and gold coins featuring different denominations were produced at the Carson City Mint a branch of the United States Mint located in the State of Nevada from 1870 to 1893. This branch of the United States Mint was established to facilitate the minting of silver coins from silver ore found in the Comstock Lode. Coins that were produced here carry the "CC" mint mark.
When coin production had ended the building served as a U.S. Assay Office for gold and silver from 1895 to 1933. In 1933 the Federal Government sold the building to the state of Nevada.

The Comstock Silver Lode
The Comstock Lode discovered by Henry T. P. Comstock in 1859 and located in Virginia City Nevada was the largest deposit of silver ore ever recorded in U.S. history. In a short period of time Virginia City became a silver boom town that justified opening a branch of the U.S. mint for the production of silver coins located in Carson City Nevada. Peak years of the mining of silver ore were 1876 to 78. Silver production declined shortly thereafter and by 1882 the boom was over. Related Books and Reference Guides
