You want a watch with a bit of history behind it. The founder of Cartier's jewelry got his start in Paris, where he took over the management of Adolphe Picard in 1947. Within a decade, he was making jewelry for notables like the niece of Napoleon 1, Princess Mathilde. He opened his workshop at its current location in 1899 and was joined by his son. By 1900, his business was booming as jewelry mounted in platinum became stylish and royals flocked to Paris to purchase jewelry from the Cartier family. By 1908, the owner of Cartier's had been appointed the official purveyor to the King of Siam and, the next year, he patented a folding buckle for wristwatches. He also expanded his business to include workshops in London and New York. The Cartier family had proven themselves to be successful businessmen and jewelers and the legacy of their work can still be enjoyed today.
