Carved Santa

Give the Gift of a Carved Santa this Holiday Season

Santa is a symbol of believing in something magical and wondrous. When I see my hand carved Santa Claus figurines during the holiday season, I am reminded to hold onto my childlike faith.

Sometimes I keep a Santa carving out on my mantle after packing up all of my holiday decorations. Seeing those Santa carvings reminds me to keep the spirit of Christmas alive every day and to live the magic.

I have never really been a collector, but it's different with these carved wooden Santas. For one thing, each Santa was given to me by someone who loved me. And, each carving was meticulously handmade by a craftsman who saw the Santa in a branch or block of wood and chipped away until he or she had released the unique spirit of Santa from the raw materials at hand.

Handmade gifts are unlike anything you can find in a big box store. A gift made by hand is a gift made from the heart. Each of my Santas carry the spirit of the maker and the giver. I am sure that is why I treasure my Santa collection. Is there someone in your life who would appreciate the gift of a magical hand carved Santa?

Woodworking Gift Ideas

I love woodworking projects. There is something deeply satisfying about seeing the potential in a piece of wood and being a part of shaping that natural beauty. As an extension of my enjoyment of carpentry, I have decided to get into wood carving. I'd like to share some of the resources I am using in case there is someone in your life who would love a woodworking gift.

The nice thing about a woodworking gift is that it often leads to extra income. Many hobbyists sell their carvings online or at local art festivals. The best carved Santa items on eBay are selling incredibly fast this season. For me, woodworking tools or guides are gifts that keep on giving because I find myself loving the art of creating something that brings pleasure to others.

I collect and adore old world St. Nicholas/Santa/Father Christmas statuary, art and ornaments. My favorite is a Nordic ski Santa with long robes - my youngest granddaughter is infatuated with this guy as well, and every time she's here she and he have long play sessions together. Only 2 years old but respects his delicacy and beauty.

Santa lives on with my granddaughter now. I collect angels, so if there is an angel santa I'm all over it. Merry Christmas! Like #20 for you:)

Oh yes, I do believe in the magic of Santa! As a matter of fact, I experienced it just a little bit ago when I received an invitation from my adult son to join him at his home for Christmas--a long awaited reuniting of mother and child. What more could a momma ask for from Santa!

I'd be willing to bet you could carve out a beauty of a Santa and hope when you do that you share him too!

I believe in Santa, and love carved ones. I haven't seen Russian carved Santa's just the painted ones, but that whole line of art interests me. Now as to Santa...absolutely I believe in the magic, it's what adds so much fun for me :) *Blessed*

Ah ... thinking back all those many years ago to the mystery and delight of Christmas and waiting for Santa to arrive. Yes, in a way, I do still believe in the concept of Santa ... usually, it is now the Secret Santa.

I heard the sound of a bell as I ascended stairs at work today and immediately thought of the special bell from Santa's sleigh in the movie "Polar Express"....

I believe in Santa, I believe in fairies and I believe in dragons and unicorns too. The world needs to be a more magical place as it gets increasingly stressy and humdrum with each passing year! :)

Of course :) I love Santa's , especially the vintage style and I love these carved wooden Santas so much. I have painted so many Santas, sewn so many but have never tried wood carving, looks like fun, great lens :)
