Village of Cary, Illinois 60013

The Village of Cary was named after the farmer who platted the town in 1856, William Cary. Built around the railroad, Cary was incorporated in 1893 with L. E. Mentch as president.

Early residents to the community were a mix of farmers and rail road workers. In 1903, Borden Dairy opened a large bottling plant in Cary, IL.

The proximity of Cary to Chicago brought visitors to hotels and resorts along the Fox River looking for pure air and clean, fish-filled waters.

The Village Of Cary operates on a Mayor-Trustee elected form of government in which the mayor and six Village Trustees are elected at large for four year overlapping terms. The Mayor presides at Board meetings and has limited voting rights (generally limited to breaking ties) and veto authority. The Village Board is the legislative body of the Village government. The Board determines all matters of Village policy and approves all Village ordinances and resolutions, in addition to adopting the annual Village budget.
